85 Years of History, Reimagined. 🤍
This has been one of the most special projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on.
Allison brought me her grandmother’s original wedding gown from 1941, hoping to have it redesigned into a dress she could wear for her own wedding rehearsal dinner.
What made this gown even more special was the story behind it. Her grandfather had purchased the beautiful handmade silk and lace in Japan before he had even met her grandmother.
After 85 years, the original handmade Japanese lace had become extremely fragile, to the point where it was falling apart when touched. Before beginning the redesign, I carefully restored and reinforced the lace to preserve the original material and ensure it could be incorporated into the new design.
I created a custom design for Allison, and when I showed her my sketch, she told me it was exactly what she had in mind!
The original floor-length gown was then completely redesigned into a tea-length dress with a fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a corset back. The original silk was carefully reworked into the new skirt, preserving the beautiful materials and history of the gown.
Every detail was thoughtfully constructed to give this 1941 wedding dress a new look while honoring its original craftsmanship.
Seeing Allison wearing her grandmother’s silk and lace 85 years later, now in a dress created especially for her, was such a beautiful moment.
Thank you, Allison, for trusting me with such a meaningful piece of your family’s history. You looked absolutely stunning! 🤍
