Important Notice: Impending Virginia State Police Background Check Delays & Transfer Deadlines

The Virginia State Police (VSP) are reporting background check delay times of up to 4 hours or more. As we approach the July 1st legislative deadline, wait times are expected to increase significantly and could stretch into days.

If you are planning to purchase an affected firearm before the new law takes effect, please do not wait.

• Our FFL Transfer Deadline is June 22nd.
• Any incoming transfers of banned fi****ms received after June 22nd will be returned to the sender at the buyer’s expense.

VCDL and GOA have big win in court over UBCs!

Today, Lynchburg’s Judge Yeatts told the Virginia State Police (VSP) that his permanent statewide injunction against Universal Background Checks (UBCs) is still very much in effect. He denied our motion to charge the VSP with contempt of court but made it quite clear that he expects all law enforcement in Virginia to comply with his order.

We understand that the recent legislative changes have created uncertainty and concern for many Virginia residents. However, we ask that customers remain respectful of our staff and their time. Our employees are here to assist with transactions and store-related matters, but they are not in a position to debate legislation or provide legal interpretations.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to serve all customers efficiently during this period of transition. Please read our transfer policy updates below.

TRANSFER POLICY UPDATE:

Effective July 1, Virginia’s assault weapon legislation (HB 217/SB 749) takes effect. Consequently, any fi****ms or magazines covered under the law that have not been transferred to the purchaser prior to that date will be ineligible for transfer.

As the deadline approaches, we expect a substantial increase in background check requests. This may result in longer processing times, particularly for individuals who typically experience delayed approvals. Customers are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Incoming Firearm Transfers

We will STOP accepting incoming transfers of affected fi****ms after June 22. All qualifying fi****ms must arrive at our facility no later than that date. Any shipment received after June 22 will be returned at the transferee’s expense, and applicable transfer fees will still apply.

Effective immediately we will no longer accept any Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) and Short-Barreled Shotgun (SBS) transfers.

Please note that transfers of affected fi****ms to licensed dealers or to recipients outside Virginia will remain lawful after July 1.
