Welcome to the official page of "The Paisley Whale"
Celebrating 8 years and counting! Preserving & Making History, One Piece At a Time

A whole shopping experience in downtown Kingston, Wa. Listen to vintage records as you shop amongst vintage and handcrafted treasures. Owned and operated by a PNW Washington local (that’s me) I welcome you to my shop. I reinvent, upcycle, repair, create,

whatever I can come up with using the items in front of me. I am always looking to provide crafters, artists, (& the like) a venue for their items to be appreciated & sold to those who love it. Contact me through email if interested in renting a space to showcase your products or art.

Using the softest leather I was able to hand stitch my own personal medicine pouch
It now hangs on my waist along with my new belt bag

I may not have the wisdom from time and experience, but I can teach you what my hands know,
And if you have a love of learning, I would love to teach you how to make your own medicine pouch

Sitting in on his class, he not only taught our hands to work with the leather, but dropped wisdom so our minds were working too
I would like to offer that to you as well if you’re interested

Being comfortable is so important!
Feeling good with what you wear

I know it brings me a sense of wholeness
Adjusting my outfit to the occasion for myself
And with the words of affirmation I get from even complete strangers, knowing I bring them joy
Completes the ensemble

✨✨✨✨💖✨✨✨✨

don’t wait for others to become themselves to give you permission to be who you are
You are loved more than you know
Loving yourself and the body you’re in should be our societal goal

I haven’t been actively selling,
After I closed up shop,
I’ve been taking a lot of time for myself,
My family,
Reflecting
And now I’ve been traveling around a lot
attending a lot of festivals, but haven’t wanted to put my self out there selling, I suppose
My friend offered a small corner of their booth for my table in exchange for my assistance
I graciously accepted,

I have learned a lot about myself (continue to do so, )
and it felt good to get back out there again

I think if I’m gonna get back in to the game
Starting small with no pressure and helping others
was just what I needed

✨✨✨✨flashback photo✨✨✨✨
these albums are what ya call 78s
the size of the records you have are probably 33s the "average" standard size now
or
45s which hold about one song on each side and are much smaller

the 78s came from last century lol
actually the late 1800s
when they were made of a brittle shellac made from bugs 🐞 lol
and only hold one song per side
but were a big improvement from Thomas Edison's wax discs.

the numbers are the revolutions or rotations per minute similar to a car

78rpm or 78s
aren't vinyl which most albums are referred to because of the material
but are referred to as shellac or breakables and were slang termed "platters " by djs before the switch to 33rpm on vinyl in the 1940s to popularize in the 1950s

when recorded the artist would have to play into a large horn to amplify the sound into the recording device (why most of these albums sounded like they were playing from a tin can )
(oh don’t get me started on why we call them albums… okay too late… It’s actually because these only contained one song per side. They would be released in series’ in thick paper notebook sleeves adjoined together similar to a photo album or such)
then the large steel needle would be placed in the deep grooves of the thick shellac, and a handle would be cranked up to operate the revolutions and another horn to amplify the sound out of the record player

isn't it a bit magic and science
so cool! I love learning about this stuff
What fun fact do you know about 78s?
or were any of these new to you?

At my new studio, getting it all set up
