HER STORY
Roxy developed a love for painting at a very young age. Like all forms of artistic expression, it first served as an emotional outlet. Due to the political situation in her homeland of Cuba, Roxy was sent to live in the United States at age 8. She, along with thousands of other Cuban children, was brought to Florida ahead of her parents through the Pedro Pan mission. While she was eventually reunited with her family, painting helped her deal with the loneliness of living in an orphanage and being in a foreign country where she did not speak the language. As she got older, she began experimenting with different mediums - acrylic, oils, pastels, ink and watercolor. She painted portraits, landscape, seascapes, still life – but what she really loved was creating abstract art. With abstract art, Roxy experiences a freedom that other forms of painting do not provide – she is able to create whatever her mind envisions. Using any medium, and mixing any colors, this art form allows her to capture the movement and music that life offers – the beauty of the ocean and waves, the grandeur of mountains and volcanoes, the sweetness of a sea breeze, the evening’s delight and the ecstasy of the moment! Roxy continues to experiment with different mediums. Her work evolves alongside her mind, because in her heart she is still the 8 year old that looks at life through color, movement and music. Roxana Zubía is her latest creative venture. Every poncho, scarf, tunic and shawl originated as a piece of art, making this clothing line a bridge - from canvas to collection.
