Edible Clothing Company (E&Co) started in September 2010 when I was a broke and hungry 20-something. I wasn’t starving, but in true first-world fashion, I didn't want the food I already had. I was humbled by the saying, "my worst day is someone else's best day," and reminded that I was still blessed with what little I did have. That mantra gave me hope to create change in more than just my own lif
e, and Edible Clothing was born. I started looking for facts, statistics, articles...anything I could find online related to the issue of hunger in America. Did you know 22 million children rely on free/reduced price meals at school? What does that mean for summers and weekends? Children in America are going hungry and very little is done for the issue. Edible Clothing Company grew from an idea to a reality with Eddie, a cartoon milkshake. I began printing Eddie on shirts with a promise to donate a percentage of any profits from sales to help provide food for hungry people. Our only marketing in the beginning was word-of-mouth, but soon enough friends, neighbors, and complete strangers started buying the shirts. Edible Clothing was officially on the map.
