This 4th, I’ve been thinking about Texas, where I often spent this day with my Dad. As a kid I remember the lake, bbq, and Dr. Pepper—times have changed, but not too much. Simple moments like these remind me of the reasons why we opened Son of a Texan. Our vision was founded on the value of togetherness, of lifting up other small businesses—those that were built on the hope of a dream. We recognize that shopping local means supporting the folks who are bringing a higher standard and quality to a world dominated by convenience and fast fashion. Our brands represent the breadth of faces and places that make up the very soul of America. When you shop with us, you’re truly shopping local, coast to coast.

We’re real pleased to get our hands on this vintage chambray shirt from our pals at West Major. They are one of the first few brands we wanted to build our shop’s story with. This 3.5 oz lightweight shirt is 100% cotton chambray with double needle side seams, made in the U.S.A.

You’ll find double chest pockets and pocket flaps with pearl snaps throughout.

You’ll also wear western yokes on your shoulders and back as an accent piece. These are the real deal!

You don’t have to be an Oilman to wear these chinos, but they did inspire the latest fit from Bryan Shettig - The Rite Stuff

Made in Japan of 100% cotton, this 7.7 oz Japanese-milled twill is versatile enough to beat the Louisiana heat. Inside, you’ll find salt and pepper cedar brown lining, pocket bags, and piping alongside a button fly.

Son of a Texan was built on inspiration from the men in my life—Robert, my Dad, and Sam, my PawPaw. Dad served in the Coast Guard and was a team calf roper in Texas, and PawPaw served in the South Pacific during WWII. Durable garments helped them through their day to day, from caring for horses to carpentry. We wanted to bring these sentiments around durability right here to Downtown Lafayette, with the purpose of helping those seeking a quality fit to find their way. We carry sizes across the gamut, from 28-42 and XS-3X, and we know the people and places that have built our brands. We welcome you to be part of this legacy, too.

Thank you, Dad and PawPaw, for helping shape who I am. Happy Father’s Day, every day.
