As I sit down to write this, my heart is filled with gratitude, nostalgia, and just a touch of sadness. Michael Paul’s has been more than a boutique; it has been a dream, a passion, and a place where friendships were formed, confidence was built, and memories were made.
To my loyal customers who became more like friends—thank you. Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your special moments, whether it was finding the perfect gown for a pageant, a formal event, or just something that made you feel beautiful. Your support and love have meant the world to me, and I will forever cherish the connections we have built over the years.
To everyone who has supported me on this journey, whether by shopping, sharing posts, recommending Michael Paul’s to a friend, or just offering words of encouragement—thank you. This has been a journey filled with highs and lows, but knowing I had a community behind me made all the difference.
A special thanks to those customers who got to experience the magic of Michael Paul’s before the doors even opened—the ones who had the exclusive, personal shopping experience at the house. You were there before the racks, the storefront, and the signs; you were a part of the foundation of this dream. I appreciate you for believing in me and for allowing me to dress you in those early days. Your trust and excitement fueled my passion and gave me the courage to take the next step.
To the queens I had the privilege of working with—what an honor it was to play a small role in your journeys! Julia Williams, Miss Louisiana 2021, Maci Bergeron, Hali Westerman, Ashley Gorrell, Jadyn Deviller, Shelby Guidry, Robi Peavy, The Hardy Girls, and so many more—each of you inspired me in your own way. Seeing you take the stage, radiating confidence and grace, made every late night and every early morning worth it. I loved helping your natural beauty shine through, and I am so incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished.
To the brands that believed in me—Gaspar Cruz, Fernando Wong, Jovani, Ashley Lauren, Colors, Mon Cheri, just to name a few—thank you for trusting me to represent your designs. Your support allowed me to bring some of the most stunning gowns to Lake Charles, and I am forever grateful for the relationships built along the way.
To the moms who became my “other mothers” in the shop—where would I be without you? You came in for dresses, but you stayed for the friendships, the laughs, the late-night fittings, and the endless advice. You helped keep me sane during the busiest seasons, and for that, I will always be grateful.
To Richard—there aren’t enough words to express how much you mean to me and to this store. You have been there since day one, pouring not just time and effort, but your heart and soul into making Michael Paul’s a reality. From building displays to moving dresses, from fixing things at the last minute to lending an ear when I needed to vent, your sweat equity is embedded in the very walls of this boutique. I couldn’t have done this without you, and I will always be grateful for your unwavering support and dedication.
To Mrs. Sally—my seamstress, my alibi, my right hand. There is no way Michael Paul’s could have been what it was without you. Your skill, your patience, and your humor made every fitting, every alteration, and every last-minute adjustment possible. You made sure that every customer left with a dress that not only fit them perfectly but made them feel like the best version of themselves. And now, as we close this chapter, I know our adventures aren’t over. Get ready, because we are not done making memories together!
To my parents, TuTu and Zoe—thank you. Thank you for believing in me, for supporting this crazy dream of mine, and for being there through every triumph and every challenge. Your encouragement and love have been my rock. From helping in the store to simply being there when I needed advice or a shoulder to lean on, you have been my biggest cheerleaders, and I love you more than words can say.
To my grandparents, DaDa and Paul—this dream wouldn’t have been possible without you. You not only believed in my vision, but you also helped me accomplish it. Your wisdom, your love, and your unwavering support gave me the courage to take this leap of faith. I hope I made you proud, because everything I did was with the lessons you taught me in my heart.
To Tat—even though you are no longer here, you are still a part of this journey. The memories we made in this boutique, the laughter, the stories, and the love we shared are forever imprinted in my heart. I know you would be proud of what Michael Paul’s became, and I carry you with me always.
As I close this chapter, I can’t help but reflect on what it means to support local businesses. The truth is, Lake Charles still struggles with understanding what it truly means to support local. It’s more than just making a purchase—it’s about showing up, about choosing to spend your dollars in a place that was built with heart, sweat, and dreams rather than handing them over to a chain store that won’t remember your name. It’s about community, about building up the people who live here, about keeping our city vibrant and unique.
Owning a small business in this town has shown me both the best and the most frustrating parts of that reality. I have seen the unwavering loyalty of some of the most incredible customers, but I have also seen the challenges of trying to keep up in a world where big-box stores and online shopping dominate. If nothing else, I hope my journey with Michael Paul’s reminds people how important it is to support the businesses that are run by your neighbors, your friends, and the people who genuinely care about you and this community.
Michael Paul’s may be closing its doors, but the memories, the relationships, and the experiences will live on. This is not goodbye—it’s just the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Who knows what the future holds? One thing I do know is that I will forever be grateful for the love and support I have received throughout this incredible journey.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
With love and gratitude,
Michael Paul
