Hah! Seriously, to all the dads out there this weekend. Happy Father’s Day. (You’re old if you grew up (in the best era ever!) when a milkman delivered milk to your home).

Some will fall in love with this chair….
Some will not.
But the client is who I aimed to please…always.
She requested creamy white with distressed back to highlight the details and make her look like she has survived many a memorable gathering at the table….so I did what I do….the client was me and I am very pleased💕. Shabby chic goodness. Chippy and worn creamy whites. No….she is not for sale. One down and a few more to go 🪑🪑🪑

Stopped at a thrift store today. Snagged a few things. Left these for someone else…..the makeup table was French Country goodness at $39.99 and the vintage chair was in mint condition $29.99. If you’re interested in either item, a trip to Salvation Army in IL is where you can find them.

I prefer the creamy white….matches my table. For reference, my table was left in our home. It is not an antique. Mass produced with thin veneer wood top. It was free to me and had damages I had to repair. I will now distress and seal💕. I will post a pic when all 4 chairs are completed. Thanks for following along with me today as I chalk painted!

Part 4

The first coat always goes on light! Do not freak out! Its sole purpose is to lightly paint all the surfaces, the bottom, sides, top and these darn spindles. The trick: use a white mens tube sock. Place tube sock on your hand. Apply just a dab of your paint in the cup of your hand and mist with water. Go over those darn spindles in a flash!

Now it dries while I start chair #2. I will lightly sand chair #1 and apply a second coat. Then, lightly sand surface again. The fine finishing sponge knocks off any uneven particles on the paint surface. I honestly shake my head at claims you do not need to sand or prep furniture. You do if you want a factory “like butter” finish that lasts. You do if you care what you’re doing. And you especially do if you custom paint.

Part 3

Those who took my painting classes know…..always start at the bottom sides first! Customers see the bottoms when your clients load it into their vehicles. A sign of a good painter is to always paint the bottoms and the backside of pieces as well as the tops or fronts. Go the extra mile for your clients. They will return again and again and tell others.

Part 2
2 chairs wiped down with tsp. This was a very white rag! Now, I will go back over them with a clean rag and plain water to remove tsp residue. Prep is key! Tsp or White Lightning is only used on surfaces your getting ready to paint. Do not use on cabinetry or anything else as it does strip the wax, grime, dirt and sometimes the finish. It is preparing the surface for paint to adhere to it. Remove your jewelry and wear gloves if you wear faux nails!
