P S A : B U Y I T
I’ve had a day of reflection! Not to discredit my everyday life or the people in it, but it was a day all on my own, and of my choosing. No cooking, cleaning, mothering, driving, decision making for others, or life lessons to squeeze in before college. Not that these are bad things, they’re amazing, but when your life suddenly revolves around them, a good old fashioned “me day” can feel like a dream!
Context: I’m in Iceland!!!! Specifically, Reykjavík. Why? My first born had the choice of a grad party or a trip to a place of his choosing. While I wasn’t thrilled about the 50-60 degree weather forecast, I kept my mouth shut and went with whatever he chose, because it was his moment. And boy did I severely underestimate his decision because it has been an experience that I can not put into words! It’s been everything he wanted, and today while the boys did the fishing trip, I got a girl day to myself!
Because you are here for either your love of fashion, or to watch what trainwreck comes next 😊 I’m going to focus on my day and the take away from it because I think it can benefit most women.
When it comes to FASHION: gurl, do you! I’ve had the benefit of being able to travel for work, and some fun, and I always take away the same lesson, no matter where I go. Fashion has no guidelines!!! It has suggestions, trends, influencers, ads, dos/dont’s, but at the end of the day, the people with the smiles and the ones that leave an impression, are the ones that are comfortable in their own skin. They wear what they want, without concern for what others think.
I’ve spent 10 years running a business of constantly toeing this line! Will other people like it? Can I sell it? Will it look as good on everyday people as it does on models and mannequins? And it was exhausting! Always trying to conform! Always questioning my decision making for the masses. Always trying to find the next best thing, the thing everyone will love and have to have. But at the end of the day, from the first day to my last day, the same goal remained….to provide items that women could feel like T H E I R best selves. So while I may no longer have a store front, I have this platform, and I’m here to encourage you!
W E A R W H A T M A K E S Y O U H A P PY!!! I’m currently sitting at an Icelandic bar, eating bread (shocking for a gluten allergy), drinking a glass of wine, missing my store and my customers, reflecting on my day and I’m writing because the same message that I started with remains the same 10 years later. Others might hate it, but who cares? Do you love it? In a world full of amazons, find the unique pieces that every time you look in your closet, you’ll smile because of a memory! Because of the details it held, how you felt wearing it, what occasion you picked it for! Those are the pieces your closet should hold! The ones that make
Y O U happy!
At this point, I consider myself to be a professional shopper, even if by default. However, I’m still a girl, that is full of insecurities, and the “should I?”, or concerns of what other people will think, or how does it look? Today I put myself back in that space, but walked away feeling inspired. Throw it out the window, the concern for other peoples opinions. Buy the pieces you love!!! I walked into an Icelandic store in tennis shoes and wide leg jeans, and left with a cropped tee and black satin lace skirt, and I can not wait to wear it! I’ll pair it with cowboy boots, a hat, and hopefully I’ll dance to my favorite music! I bought it because it made M E happy and made me feel like me. Not like a mom, or a wife, or a shadow of who I once was, but because it made me feel like exactly who I am in this moment. Carefree, fun, and ready for what will come next, even if it pushes the envelope of the norm.
So this is your reminder! To all the people that have followed and loved us all these years, the ones at the back of the room that are still questioning what to wear, that at the end of the day, it’s about what makes Y O U happy and what Y O U feel good in! B U Y the pieces you love without concern for the masses, buy what Y O U feel good in!
