I’m so grateful for everyone who joined me today on Live with Dr. Patrice Green. These morning sessions are designed to bring clarity, encouragement, and real strategies—and today was no exception.
You all asked some powerful questions that so many others are wondering too. Here are just a few we covered, along with my honest responses:
1. “Why do I keep getting skipped over by recruiters?”
👉 One participant shared their résumé, and we took a close look at what might be holding them back. It turns out the résumé was task-oriented, not accomplishment-driven. The keywords were vague, and the story just didn’t grab attention. We discussed how a few key changes—like highlighting results and crafting a compelling narrative—could make a big difference.
2. “How can I find jobs that aren’t even posted?”
👉 We talked about the power of the hidden job market. Opportunities often come through authentic networking, reaching out to decision-makers, and building relationships—before the job even goes live online.
3. “I’ve applied to 50+ jobs and haven’t heard back—what am I doing wrong?”
👉 It’s probably a combination of things, but the most important issue is usually a lack of strategy. If you’re not getting responses, then your current résumé isn’t working. I recommend hitting reset: review your résumé, identify what’s not connecting, and build a more intentional approach to your search. Strategy changes everything.
4. “Do I have to include experience from 15+ years ago?”
👉 Not necessarily. You want to highlight the most relevant and recent experience. Focus on transferable skills and accomplishments that align with today’s roles.
5. “I have a gap on my résumé—how do I talk about it without sounding like I’m making excuses?”
👉 Keep it positive and honest. Life happens—maybe you were caregiving, recovering, or reassessing your path. What matters most is how you frame the experience and what you’ve learned. Avoid negative language, and instead show how that season shaped you into the professional you are today.
6. “Is it too late to start over in my 40s or 50s?”
👉 Not at all. Reinvention is always possible. I’ve worked with clients in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s who’ve landed roles they love. What it takes is clarity, confidence, and a strategy that fits this season of your life.
