A little personal, but I wanted to share something that’s very close to my heart.
Many of you know that “We Beat Odds” has been our family’s motto since 2017. What started as words we repeated during difficult seasons has grown into something I hope can encourage others.
I’ve officially launched We Beat Odds—a place to celebrate resilience, hope, and the incredible people who overcome life’s toughest challenges.
While Reveal Ultrasound will always be about celebrating new life and growing families, this new project is about celebrating the strength that carries us through every season of life.
If stories of perseverance and hope speak to you, I’d love to have you join us over there. ❤️
* Reveal Ultrasound celebrates the beginning of life.
* We Beat Odds celebrates the strength it takes to live it.
WE BEAT ODDS.
It’s a phrase that’s been part of our family’s vocabulary for nearly a decade.
Long before it became an official business, it was simply our response to life’s seemingly impossible moments.
The phrase actually takes me back even further.
In high school, my track coach had one favorite phrase he’d yell from the sidelines:
“Beat somebody!”
It wasn’t because I was leading the pack. Quite the opposite. I was usually just trying to survive the race without getting lapped. I never won a race… but I always finished. Looking back, maybe that’s where my love for the underdog began. I’ve spent most of my life rooting for the people nobody expected to make it.
Then came 2017.
I found myself spending nearly three weeks in the hospital after unexpected surgical complications and eventually came home with a PICC line. Not long after, the day before Hurricane Harvey made landfall, our son Noah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). He was discharged while still in DKA because the storm was coming, and we spent the next five days trapped in our home as Harvey flooded our area.
Here’s the part that still gives me chills.
One strange side effect of my PICC line was an incredibly heightened sense of smell. I kept telling Norm that Noah smelled different. He thought I was crazy.
I wasn’t.
That unusual smell prompted us to check Noah’s blood sugar. Without insulin, he likely wouldn’t have survived those five days while we were trapped by the storm.
There’s definitely a full story coming on that one.
We beat those odds.
Then, in late 2022, our world changed again.
Norm was diagnosed with a one-in-a-million cancer in an even rarer location, making his diagnosis closer to one in eight million. He became the first person in the world to undergo the surgery that ultimately saved his life.
We were told that if he survived, blindness or paralysis from the chest down were very real possibilities.
He survived.
He walks.
He drives.
He laughs.
He continues to inspire us every single day.
We beat those odds, too.
There have been recurrences. More surgeries. Radiation. Infections. Setbacks that could have easily become stopping points.
Instead, they became fuel.
During this most recent chapter of Norm’s journey, I knew it was finally time to make something official that had been living in my heart for years.
With the help of our attorney (thank you, Frank Earley!), We Beat Odds officially became a business on June 29, 2026.
Ironically, another setback delayed this announcement.
It seems fitting.
We beat those odds, too.
So… what is We Beat Odds?
It’s a movement built around one simple truth:
The odds are real. The outcome isn’t predetermined.
I’m beginning to interview ordinary people who have accomplished extraordinary things. People who have overcome diagnoses, disabilities, trauma, grief, addiction, loss, impossible circumstances, and every other obstacle life can throw at them.
These aren’t celebrity stories.
They’re real stories from real people.
Stories that remind us what’s possible.
The dream is to launch a podcast where people from all over the world can share how they beat the odds, so someone else finds hope to keep climbing.
Several incredible people have already agreed to share their journeys, and I honestly can’t wait to introduce you to them.
If you’ve ever found yourself cheering for the underdog…
Welcome.
You’ve found your people.
And if you have beaten the odds—or know someone whose story deserves to be heard—I would love to connect. Someone out there may need exactly the hope your story can offer.
This is only the beginning.
Stay tuned…
We’re just getting started.
