A typical contractor-grade closet system—or more accurately, a missed opportunity!

Look closely and you’ll see the frustration: clothes can’t easily slide along the hanging rod and the open space beneath the lower shelf becomes a magnet for clutter. Wire shelving and this type of layout simply don’t maximize space or function.

Luckily, we were invited to troubleshoot this guest bedroom closet and create a system that works beautifully. And as always, we knocked it out of the park!

As an organizer, I don’t show up with a car full of containers. In fact, I don’t even keep a stash of them.

My approach has always been simple: simplify and make spaces functional. Rarely does that mean buying more containers. It’s all about looking at the space differently, eliminating what’s unnecessary to create systems that actually work for the way you live.

Ironically, more often than not, when I finish organizing a space, there’s a stack of the homeowner’s unused containers left behind—proof that sometimes, you don’t need more stuff to get organized. You need less.

Imagine buying a beautiful brand-new home… only to realize you got ripped off when it came to closet storage (AKA…wire shelving).

That was this homeowner’s story—twice! We installed closets in their first home locally, and after a business transfer to Tallahassee, they found themselves in the same situation.

Thankfully, we already knew exactly what they needed—from shoe storage to hanging space. We’re so grateful for repeat customers who take us with them wherever life moves them! ❤️

If you could change anything about your closet, what would it be?

Before you change the way it looks, take a closer look at how it functions. You may be tempted to add wallpaper, hang pictures, buy pretty containers or paint it a dark and moody color. And while those changes can make your closet beautiful, they’ll only bring temporary satisfaction if the space still isn’t working for you.

Start with function. What’s frustrating you? Are you struggling to see what you own? Do you need more hanging space, better organization, or easier access to the things you use most?

Once the function is right, then have fun with the finishes.

Because when you improve the way your closet works and then make it beautiful, that’s when you hit a home run.

Function is our focus when designing closets.
