Dani here: I've loved wolves since I was a child, so when I took a trip to last fall, I knew I wanted to spend as much time as possible looking for red wolves. I woke before the sun rose each morning to drive to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. I searched all over, stopping to photograph black bears and other wildlife along the way, all the while hoping I'd catch a glimpse of the elusive wolves. Finally, on the second to last day of my trip, I spotted them. 

I was so excited! They are such beautiful, intelligent, misunderstood animals. And they only exist in the wild here in North Carolina! I only wish I'd had a more powerful lens to see them better. We're lucky we have such a talented niece, Emma P, who can show the red wolf off better with her art. 

Wolves deserve our kindness and respect. If you love them as much as we do, check out the Red Wolf Coalition. They are constantly working to conserve red wolf populations and currently have a speciality license plate campaign in the works to help do just that. Also, don't forget to come see us for your red wolf gear!
