As usual, I am terrible at posting progress pictures of my projects. Pictured below is my most recent project. This is an early 1860s Civil War dress inspired by the pictured fashion plate, particularly the sleeve shape. The fabric is plaid silk taffeta. I’ve decided to call this my berries and cream dress. Photos were taken at James Buchanan‘s Wheatland. Many thanks to my wonderful student for taking these photos for me!

Hand beading the yoke of a new modern dress for an upcoming wedding rehearsal and dinner. Every time I bead I think ‘I hate this. I’m never doing it again’. And yet, here we are. 😆. What fiddly task do you love the look of but hate doing?

This is what I spent my snow days working on: the base of my Effie Trinket cosplay! Many details still to add but I made it for free! Yay stash projects!

Skirt is from my closet. Top is green silk overdyed in blue. This one was Frankenpatterned from a vintage blouse pattern, a Truly Victorian 1890s sleeve pattern, and some self drafted bits. Lined in heavy cotton woven for stability. Fascinator is spray painted flowers and black netting on a buckram circle base.

Photo was snapped by a student. It was movie/tv or book character day at school. See the comments for what I was trying to emulate.

Me on Tuesday: I’ll only dye two yards of this fabric. That will surely be enough!

Me on Wednesday: oh p**p....

Me today: blue hands from dyeing more fabric.

Lesson learned: dye all the fabric

Snow day = sew day! Working on something fun for book or movie character day at school on Friday. Pics to come! What are you working on today?

I needed some instant gratification sewing so I offered to make some aprons for a charity auction to benefit a local church. This is one of the two! I made a his and hers set. The ‘his’ version is much less fun. Both were stash projects so they were free for me!

Did I really never post a picture of my completely torn apart, recut and resewn 1887 bodice and my new hat being worn? No? Well here you go! Bonus photo of the tiny human and me in matching outfits.

I did finish my interpretation of the hood I posted the fashion plate of several weeks ago. Unfortunately, it poured down rain the entire day and I only managed to score a few car selfies. But I’m very happy with how it came out! It is warm and successfully kept my head dry. It’s also easy to take down and put back up, unlike my other reproduction hood. I definitely learned a few things about scaling ungrided patterns, too!

Working on some modern sewing. Sparkles everywhere! Truth be told, I occasionally miss working with sparkly fabrics. But then I pet my silk taffeta stash and I’m ok again.
