My partner and I started making our own sugar scrubs to help with a skin condition our son has had since he was about six months old. We tried numerous bathing and moisturizing routines suggested by our pediatrician and pediatric specialist, as well as a prescription ointment, but nothing seemed to help his keratosis pilaris (also known as chicken skin). We decided to make a sugar scrub with cocon
ut oil to gently smooth out bumps and rid the acne causing plugs. This also allowed the coconut oil to be easily absorbed by the skin and act as deep moisturizer. Since we began using our homemade sugar scrubs, his skin condition has significantly improved. While this will be a life-long condition and will never completely eliminate the bumps, this has improved the redness and overall complexion of his skin. Because he was, and still is, at the stage where he wants to put everything in his mouth, we wanted to ensure that the scrubs were safe, non-toxic, and all natural, in case they were ingested. Mint is his favorite and he often asks for them at the end of his baths. From there things snowballed, My partner who has an aversion to lotions, began using our scrubs on her feet and elbows. She enjoys the "soft, silky" feeling, of the coconut oil, which lasts all day, rather than the "greasy goopy" feeling of lotions. I began using them after shaving and absolutely love the scents and scent combinations we've designed. We started giving jars to friends and family as gifts or small "thank you's". Each time, we received rave reviews with requests for more. We hope you enjoy our sugar scrubs as much as we do!
