These three little people came to spend the day with us today, and I guarantee you the thirty seconds it took to take this pic is the amount of time that at least one…or all three of them…weren’t moving and/or talking the entire time they were here! The energy level between the three of them is boundless…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It was a good day and I think this pic makes for a very good “Friday Night Grandkid Pic!” Have a great weekend!

On Tuesday night I shared pics of some special Sew Busy Originals purses celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Tonight’s purse pics are celebrating America in a bit of a different way, but still with a theme that is very much a part of every 4th of July celebration across America…fireworks! The gal who will be carrying this fun purse has a face that literally lights up (pun intended!🤣) when she sees fireworks. Because of that, it was very easy to name tonight’s purse…”She Loves Fireworks!” Have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend…and, if you get a chance, go see some fireworks to celebrate the 250th birthday of our great country! 🎆🇺🇸🎇

So, anybody wondering what’s been going on over here in the Sew Busy Originals purse world?! I’m being silly in even asking that question because I know all of you are too busy to wonder about that! And, I get it. Busy is the name of the game everywhere for all of us these days. Just think about it with me for a minute…tomorrow is July 1! This summer is going by in a flash…and a blur. But speaking of July 1, that means July 4 is upon us, which brings me straight into what’s been going on here at Sew Busy Originals. A few weeks ago I got a request from one of my loyal purse customers…she’s another person who, over the last several years, became not only a repeat customer, but also a very special friend. Her request was to see if I would make some purses for her to give as gifts, which is what she usually did with her orders, if she sent me some fabric with a theme celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Oh my goodness! I couldn’t say “Yes!” fast enough! So, in a few days a package from her arrived with an assortment of patriotic fabric…with the focal piece being the one you see in tonight’s purse pics featuring the “250 years” phrase tossed all about! I was so excited and immediately started making her purses, (six of them!) the last of which I finished for her just a couple weeks ago. Her six purses led to two more 250 purse orders, which is how special ones like these usually go. Sadly, I recently learned that my friend, Frances Long, who was soon going to be 90 in a few weeks had fallen inside her home and ended up in the hospital. Unfortunately, her fall led to the discovery of some serious medical issues, which ultimately led to Fran’s passing on Monday. I was so sad to hear this news, but am so honored to have been able to make all the purses she’s ordered as gifts over the years, but especially these “250 themed” purses. Fran lived in Arkansas and the interesting thing about my friendship with her is that I never actually met her in person. In fact, I never even talked to her on phone. All of our communication was via email, but I got to where I felt like I knew her. We exchanged many family and “life” stories. And, she always told me how much she enjoyed my “Friday Night Grandkid Pics.” You know how happy hearing that always makes me! So, while I won’t have the chance to make any more purse orders for Fran, I am so grateful to have had the chance to be friends with her. That was the best part! And, I’m sure all the people to whom she’s gifted Sew Busy purses over the years will cherish them a little more now. Fran was such a thoughtful, generous and gracious lady and will sincerely be missed as my special “email purse friend.”

I’m posting some “Friday Afternoon Grandkid Pics” because today is a big day for this little red-headed boy! This was his third annual lemonade stand at his mom and dad’s garage sale. Believe me, he is quite the salesman…but, how could anyone turn down that cute little face holding a cup of delicious, cold lemonade on a hot day?! As you see in the pic, he recruited an assistant to help him out at his lemonade stand, which was a good plan because said assistant was cheap labor…and that was a good thing because this entrepreneurial endeavor on the driveway of their house is to raise money for the little red-headed boy to spend on his upcoming vacation to the beach! If you happen to be driving around in Jeff City and have an urge for some really good lemonade, send me a message and I’ll tell you where to find him! He’ll be selling until 5:00 today and from 8-12:00 tomorrow! Have a great weekend!

Here’s something different…some “Thursday Afternoon Grandkid Pics” because this is what’s happening in our world today! It’s county fair time this week and these two are deep into the thick of it with their pig named “Cindy Lou.” The livestock show was this morning and the sale of all these special animals will be held this evening. Just hoping we don’t have too many tears when the evening draws to a close and “Cindy Lou” is loaded onto the trailer for the last time.
😳😭😫 Wish us luck!

So…how about some late night “Friday Night Grandkid Pics” for the first time in a long time?! Oh my goodness, the days and weeks and months of 2026 are absolutely flying by! It’s just crazy. And I don’t know why. I don’t feel like I’m doing anything…or anymore than I’ve always done, but the time is just spinning by at a breakneck speed. A new week starts and before I know it, that week has ended and another one has begun. I guess the only consolation is that everyone I talk to says the same thing about their world too! At least I’m not alone in watching the days speed by. For the most part, things are good…and Sew Busy Originals purses continue to be made, even in all the craziness. In fact, I probably have almost 50 of them sewn and delivered that I haven’t taken the time to post. I’m beginning to think I may never get caught up on purse pics ever again…even though it’s still on my list of things to do!

Probably the worst thing that’s happened recently was the passing of my beautiful collie dog, Canaan. It’s been about three weeks and I thought by now I would start to adjust to life without him, but it isn’t happening. I can at least kinda sorta talk about it a little bit, but not very easily; so, I will just say this…I miss him very, very much and I doubt I’ll ever stop missing him…or ever find another dog like him again. He was so very special.

As always the best thing in our world is that the people…especially these three little ones…are all good and that’s the most important thing. We had a “work day” recently with the three of them and their dads here all day getting some things done…with the main thing being getting our pool opened for the summer. They were so excited and can’t wait to get to swim in it as soon as the water is warm enough. It was a very good day, which is always the case when we get to spend it with the three of them! Have a great weekend!

I’m reminiscing and this is long, so feel free to scroll on by!

March 31, 2015. Eleven years ago today. That’s when the first Sew Busy Originals purses appeared on my page. I had tried to make a purse for myself and it was a flop. So, I tried to make another one…and then another one…and then another one. You get the drift. After I’d made about 20 of them, (because they were fun to make!) my dear husband kept asking me what I was going to do with all of them. (I was buying lots and lots of fabric and purses were hanging on every available spot in my sewing room by then.) I told him I might try to sell them…with no actual selling plan in place at that point. Next he said, “Well, I guess if you can’t sell them, you can throw them out at a parade.” Seriously?!? What in the world kind of a parade was I going to be in where I could throw purses out to unsuspecting parade goers along the parade route?!? Geez. His sarcastic comment made me mad so I thought ‘I’ll show him!’ and I made a whole bunch more of them! Finally, one day, March 31, 2015 to be exact…my daughter-in-law was here and I said to her (not in front of my husband, of course) “Sophie, what am I going to do with all these purses?!” She instantly said she’d make me a page and wanted to know what I wanted to name it. And, in about ten minutes time…Sew Busy Originals was born. And then…out the door she went…leaving me with no knowledge of what to do or even how to use Facebook. Within a few minutes of my page appearing, people started “liking” and commenting and asking how they could buy this purse or that purse. I was shocked. So, I learned how to use Facebook real quick! In the beginning, I would post a new purse every day; but when it got to where I had 50+ orders on my waiting list, I couldn’t sew fast enough to keep up with that plan and had to limit my posts to three days a week. I loved it! I was sewing A LOT and having a ball. Each purse was (and still is) an original creation and got its very own name. Once in a while, I’d write a short…or long and “too wordy” as my husband told me…story about the purse on which I was working. This went on for several months and then our first grandchild, “sweet little Miss Wendy” was born and I started babysitting for her on Fridays, which meant I didn’t sew on those days. One Friday, I decided I’d post a pic of her instead of a purse…and that turned into “Friday Night Grandkid Pics” which grew even more after “Baby Will” and “Mr. Mason” came along. Those three little blessings became the highlight of my world! By then, the “purse stories” and “grandkid pics” had become ingrained in Sew Busy Originals. Many, many people have told me how much they enjoy both the stories and seeing my sweet grandbabies. Well, eleven years have gone by in the blink of an eye…and many things have changed in my Sew Busy world, but some things have also stayed the same. My grandbabies are no longer babies, but are growing into wonderful, interesting and unique little people…who bring me happiness beyond my wildest imagination. Many other “life events” have happened, some good and some not so good, but that’s just the way things go for all of us, especially as we age. As of now, well over 950 purses have been delivered from the Sew Busy Originals sewing room, which is an unbelievable fact that I can barely comprehend. All stemming from one unsuccessful attempt at making myself a purse! The best part of all from this eleven year story is all the people, now friends, I’ve met because of my purses…another wonderful benefit I never expected to happen from that first Facebook post back in 2015. So, even though my posts are more random now because of my ever-changing and continuously busy life, I’m still here in my little sewing corner of the world and Sew Busy purses are still being made and delivered, which brings me to the pics I’m sharing tonight. These two pics show the fabric combos I’m using to make several purses celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great country. What a perfect theme for an original Sew Busy purse! So, thank you to all of you…new friends and old…for being a part of this amazing story that has brought me so much happiness…and, as always, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you need a new Sew Busy Originals purse!

This kid cracks me up! He came to visit a few days ago and when it was time to eat the chicken and noodles I’d fixed for dinner, he asked me if he could eat his with the biggest spoon he could find in my kitchen. I’m sure he was expecting me to say, “No, Will, you have to eat it with a regular size spoon.” After thinking about his request for a minute or two, it occurred to me this was a great opportunity to let him be silly and have some fun doing something he didn’t expect to get to do. And besides, at the end of the day, what was it going to hurt to let him eat with a big spoon? So, I decided to surprise him by saying, “Sure, Will, eat it with whatever size spoon you can find!” After hearing my reply, and with a big smile on his face, he immediately started rummaging through all the utensils in the overflowing drawer and, of course, pulled out the monster size spoon you see in tonight’s “Friday Night Grandkid Pics.” There was no way he could fit the spoon in his mouth, but his giggles and laughter made it all worth it as he tried over and over to make it work. And, even with using this “great big spoon, Grandma,” I’m happy to say he somehow managed to clean his bowl and eat every bite of the chicken and noodles. He’s such a funny little boy who can always find a way to have a good time…no matter what he’s doing. I think that’s a good lesson for all of us! Have a great weekend!

In my last “Friday Night Grandkid Pic” post I shared some pics of my favorite little red-headed boy with his sweet collie, Calvin. Tonight I get to share some more “kids with dogs” pics…my best girl (I can say that because she’s my only girl) and my favorite little brown-eyed boy! Grandkids and dogs…doesn’t get much better than that, friends! Have a great weekend!
