This is Brody's mom, Juli.
If you know me, you know I always have something to say. But there just aren't enough words for what has happened to my family this past week.
My Brody was just beginning to live. He was growing into the young man he wanted to be. He had dreams, plans, and so much life ahead of him. "Devastated" doesn't even come close. "Heartbroken" doesn't begin to explain what we're feeling.
There's a quote that has been stuck in my heart:
"Time is something that cannot be bought, it cannot be wagered with God, and it is not in endless supply." — Craig Sager
As true as those words are, somehow, this week, you gave us something priceless—you gave us time.
Your unbelievable generosity has given our family the time to grieve, to breathe, to process, and to begin imagining what healing might someday look like. Because of you, we haven't had to immediately worry about where our next paycheck is coming from. Our family business depends on all of us, and when our world stopped, so did our work.
You also lifted another unimaginable burden. We didn't have to wonder how we were going to afford to lay our middle child to rest. How to honor the fact he will forever be the coolest in our family. That gift is something I will never be able to fully put into words.
Even though our world has completely fallen apart, the rest of the world keeps moving. Bills still come. Responsibilities are still there. But because of all of you, some of those impossible worries were taken off our shoulders so we could focus on loving each other and saying goodbye to our sweet boy.
The messages, the cards, the prayers, the meals, the hugs, the donations, the kind words—even the quiet thoughts sent our way—we have felt every single one of them. Call it whatever you want, but we've felt your love surrounding us. You've given us moments of peace when we didn't think peace was possible. Peace knowing Brody is okay. Peace believing we'll find the strength to do the hard things. Peace hoping that somehow, one day, our family will survive this.
I've always talked about how lucky I am to be part of such an incredible community, but I've never experienced what it's like to be on the receiving end of that kind of love. It is overwhelming in the most beautiful way.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. My family thanks you. We are so grateful for your love, your support, your prayers, your patience, and your understanding as we try to figure out what comes next.
We will never forget what you've done for us. Thank you.
