"On the first Monday in May, stars don’t just walk the red carpet, they climb the steps of the Metropolitan Museum in statement couture presenting their interpretation of the exhibition’s theme to the entire world." Here's how you can watch the Met Gala red carpet.

Vogue’s official Met Gala livestream will have three notable hosts.

Only 2 more chances to see Little Shop of Horrors March 5-6th! Rush tickets are your best bet.

Leading up to closing I’ll be sharing my costume design concepts.

Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon the Skid Row street urchins function as narrators through the show. They are a mix between a Greek Chorus and doowop girl group. I wanted their costumes to unite them as a group but still give them each their own personalities with different silhouettes that best fit the actors.

Their color pallet also changes through the show starting with dark burgundy, browns and grays to lighter brighter blues. As the girls start to make more money through the show their costume, hair and makeup help tell that story.

The audience loves the sequin dresses Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon wear for “Meek Shall Inherit” and “Finale”. What is a girl group without a show stopping costume?

Mr. Mushnik the owner of a failing flower shop on Skid Row. His costume starts off in very muted dull colors and kind of sloppy appearance.

As soon as the Audrey II starts making the flower shop more successful Mushnik costumes change to represent that. He has a nicer, cleaner button-up in brighter color with a vest to pull him together.

Open of Act 2 Mushnik starts in darker rich colors a navy suit and mauve button-up. I wanted to do a little foreshadowing with everyone who is eaten by the plant by adding a shade of red to their costume. So Mushnik, Audrey and Seymour all have burgundy/ mauve in their Act 2 costume.

My costume design for Audrey is not what you normally see with the stereotypical bleached-blond hair, tight leopard print dress, and bright blue makeup. I wanted my concept to tell the story of how Audrey evolves and also complement the actress playing the role.

For Audrey’s color palette I wanted to tell the story of a bruise healing starting with a dark black and ending with light blush pink. Her silhouette changes as well from tight form-fitting almost constricting dresses to an A-line dress showing she is opening up and learning to be more (really listen to the lyrics of Suddenly Seymour).

During intermission the actress does a full makeup change removing the dark smoky eye, the black eye bruise and red lip replacing it will a softer lighter eyeshadow and warm coral lipstick. There are a few reasons I chose to make her auburn; bleached-blond hair on stage with the lights rarely looks realistic, on an actress with fair skin a blond wig can wash them out, AND I always like try the unexpected.

I hope you enjoy the costume story of Audrey as much as I did creating it.

Only 4 more chances to see Little Shop of Horrors March 3-6th!

Leading up to closing I’ll be sharing my costume design concepts. Next up is Seymour Krelborn our insecure, naive, florist clerk and experimental botanist. Seymour’s design needed to reflect someone who is poor living on Skin Row and doesn’t dress to impress. His costumes are designed to help him fade into the background in natural browns and greens. But small changes are made through his costumes to portray him becoming more successful and wanting to impress Audrey. The actor who plays Seymour is on stage almost the whole time leaving no room for full costume changes except for intermission. So each of Seymour’s costume pieces have to be very intentional to tell his story.

Only 4 more chances to see Little Shop of Horrors March 3-6th!

Leading up to closing I’ll be sharing my costume design concepts. Starting with the role of Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. the dentist who gets off on the pain he inflicts. This track also plays multiple characters through the show. The challenge with this track is creating very distinct and memorable characters who are only on stage for a short time. Another obstacle is designing full quick-change costumes when the actor has only 30 seconds to change characters, 3 times in one song! My end goal was to design believable characters who live on Skin Row with head to toe costume change.
