She wanted nothing more than a WALL-E dress. In every store we visited, the girls' clothes featured EVE, and the boys' clothes featured WALL-E. Because, you know, girls would only like the girl robot. So I bought some WALL-E fabric and sewed her a dress myself. As she grew up, her interests continued to go against what clothing manufacturers found appropriate for girls. She got into superheroes an

d comic books and Star Wars. To provide her with clothes that reflected these interests, we would either shop in the boys' department, or I would make her clothes myself. Now, I am making dresses for some of the other cool girls out there, who march to the beat of their own drums, just like my girl does. I scour yard sales and thrift shops for men's t-shirts featuring superheroes and other tomboy interests and refashion them into dresses for young girls. I take the sides in to create an a-line shape and resize and reset the sleeves.
