JOB OPPORTUNITY:
Malek Medicine, a Family Medical Practice (3610 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, 90807) is seeking to hire a Medical Assistant. Phlebotomy is a must, as you will be assisting with blood draws. This is a unique role in that it combines direct contact with patients, both in person and on the phone. The position will primarily involve direct patient care duties, but also include "front office" work, such as completing forms and letters of various types: correspondence with insurance and patients' employers, disability paperwork, insurance authorizations.

At Malek Medicine excellent patient care is our priority, so the applicant will need to be flexible and contribute to the team in various ways to ensure the highest level of patient care and compassion possible. We treat our patients the way we would want our family members to be treated.

Hours: Monday- Friday, 8-5
Salary: $22-$30 hour based on experience and productivity
Vacation: Major holidays and weekends
Benefits: Retirement plan, Medical Insurance is negotiable.

Wow, August really flew by! Sending encouragement to all the students back in school and parents navigating new daily routines. September is almost here, and we're launching a huge month of neighborhood celebrations!

First, the Good Spirits Club makes its long-awaited return on September 17th, followed closely by the return of Bliss & Beats on September 18th! Then, get ready to head back to class because tickets just dropped for the ALL NEW Bixby University on September 19th. Attending any of these events is a fantastic way to show your local support, so mark your calendars and grab your tickets!

The excitement doesn't stop there, we have plenty more lined up to keep your calendar full this month. In need of some delicious food? Check out Two the Root's special promotion tomorrow! Plus, get ready to celebrate this week because September First Fridays is happening this Friday! You can keep the good vibes going into the weekend because Beachwood Brewing & Distilling is hosting a special tailgate & bike ride on September 5th. And as you look further down the road, make sure to save the date for SteelCraft’s Oktoberfest celebration, running from September 25th through September 27th at the Long Beach location.

WELCOME TO BIXBY UNIVERSITY! 🎓Classes are in session, and you’re officially invited. 📚🍻

We’re transforming the Expo Arts Center into the most unconventional university in Long Beach for Bixby University: Lectures, Libations & a Little Extra Credit, a fundraiser supporting the Bixby Knolls Community Foundation.

Students will enjoy an afternoon of:
📚 Classes + workshops
🎨 Gallery exhibits + field trips tours
🧘‍♀️ Extracurricular activities
🎭 Improv + creative activities
🏃‍♀️ Recess activations
🍻 Kegs + libations
📖 A Schooltastic Book Fair
🛍️ A school store + alumni merch
…and a few other things that definitely won’t be on your college transcript.

Expect classes covering everything from Long Beach music history with Blair Cohn, financial planning with F&M Bank, and Spirits 101 + Mixology with Beachwood’s Beverage Director & Distiller, to the history and traditions of Día de Mu***os, life on the front lines of journalism, brain health and aging, Community Building 101, and understanding how children learn. Plus, take a few field trips with ’s Bixby Knolls Historical Restaurant Walking Tour and 100 Years of Homes in Bixby Knolls with Team Fasnacht.

🎓 HOW BIXBY UNIVERSITY WORKS
Your student experience begins with check-in + class registration between 12pm-1:30pm. Once you arrive, you’ll register for your classes. Registration is first-come, first- served, so don’t sleep through orientation! Each class has limited capacity, ranging from approximately 30–90 students. There are three class periods, giving you the opportunity to take up to three different classes or tours throughout the afternoon, based on availability.

What could a future urban art trail look like in Bixby Knolls? 👀🎨

Come help us imagine it! Join us Saturday, August 29 at 7:15am during our regular Bixby Knolls Strollers walking club time for an Urban Trail Demo as we explore ideas for a future art trail through the district.

The Bixby Knolls Community Foundation is working to create more reasons to walk, explore, and connect with our district, while highlighting the incredible art, culture, and creativity represented throughout our community.

We’ll kick things off at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf with free coffee, a brief presentation and Q&A, then hit the sidewalks for a community stroll to explore possibilities, share ideas and envision what’s next for Bixby Knolls.
