The sense of smell can evoke strong memories, especially for this young designer.

When challenged to create an architectural design inspired by scent, she knew exactly what she would do.

Listen to Anya’s story of her time spent in the Post Office, and how she translates that into her design

We’re proud to share that DesignX has once again been named Best of the Bay in the Kids category by Silicon Valley Modern Luxury.

At DesignX, we believe creativity is inherent. By nurturing it with intention, students learn to trust, shape, and bring their creativity into the world with confidence.

Every day in our summer studios, young designers (ages 7y-15y) are sketching, sewing, building, prototyping, testing ideas, solving problems, and discovering what they are capable of envisioning and making, with their own hands.

This recognition is a celebration of that work — and of the talented Summer 2026 Cohort of Fellows who make it possible.

To our Fellows, mentors, studio leads and Creative Assistants: thank you for the care, patience, imagination, and heart you bring to the studios. You help students move from idea to finished work — help build their confidence, craftsmanship, and pride — with joy and with laughter.

We are honored to be recognized, and even more grateful for the community that brings DesignX to life.
Here’s to the next generation of designers, creative thinkers, makers, and problem-solvers.

A lesson learned in Week 2: Creativity takes patience.

One of our fashion design students discovered that creating something by hand doesn’t always go exactly as planned. Learning to sew requires focus, problem-solving, and a willingness to slow down when things don’t work the first time. Every stitch is an opportunity to learn, adjust, and improve.

Creativity isn’t just about having great ideas—it’s about working through challenges, experimenting with new techniques, and trusting the process. Sometimes the best designs come from the moments when you have to pause, rethink, and try again.

See what designs can come to life from problem solving and a little patience!

Week 2 is down! And it brought serious flavor to the DesignX studios!

Our budding CREATIVES explored the Sense of Taste, and how that can inspire design through bold color, playful texture, mouthwatering imagery, and unexpected material choices.

Through sketching, pattern-making, sewing, model-building, color blocking, texture exploration, and material experimentation, they translated sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and surprising flavors into original creations full of personality — from fashion, to soft and wood toys to architectural structures.

Take a look at what they made this week — their creativity is delicious!

Few spots still open in Fashion and Wood Toy Design for the remaining weeks of summer. Come DREAM it, DESIGN it and MAKE it with us!

DesignX Summer 2026 has begun!

The theme for Week 1 was the Sense of Sight. Students worked with a striking black, white, and red color palette, eye-catching patterns, and bold shapes when designing and making their outfits, toys, and architecture models.

The creative juices are flowing, and we have 5 weeks to go! There are just a few spots left — check out the link in our bio to join this summer!
