Celebrating some memorable contributors to Black History.

World renowned performer, WWII spy, and activist are few of the titles used to describe Josephine Baker. One of the most successful African American performers in French history, Baker’s career illustrates the ways entertainers can use their platforms to change the world.

Josephine adopted twelve children from multiple countries. Having survived poverty and segregation in America, Baker wanted to assemble a “rainbow tribe” to serve as a living demonstration of unity.

Baker continued to fight racial injustices into the 1970s.

Madam C.J. Walker was self made & self promoted. Born to enslaved parents, she was inspired to and became the first black woman millionaire. She developed the “Walker System”, a hair care line for black women, then she expanded to a buisiness empire. With her wealth she employed many, allowing them financial independence, funded scholarships for women, made significant contributions to the NAACP, the black YMCA and many others. Walker was self owned and her full production was large black woman based & operated.

Sojourner Truth delivered one heck of a powerful speech in 1851, ‘Ain’t I A Woman’, if you’re not familiar, I highly recommend you read/listen to it! She gave birth to 13 children and had to painfully see them sold into slavery. Truth was a prominent figure of the Underground Railroad, helping enslaved people find their freedom, and a strong advocate for the rights of women, African Americans, and abolitionist. She’s definitely one of my favorite advocates of all times 🫶🏽
