MY BIGGEST RUNNING REGRETS🙈
🙈EVER BEING EMBARRASSED BY MY PACE
I just thought I was less of a runner if I was slower (THIS IS A BIG FAT LIE!) LUCKILY, I know much better now. I have embraced a super easy peasy pace for easy runs (it just helps me thrive) & I don’t mind not having my speed while I’m letting my body heal. There is NEVER EVER anything to be embarrassed about when you put your body first & honor it.
🙈THINKING THAT I NEEDED TO EAT LESS TO RUN FASTER
This disordered thinking has NO PLACE in our sport. If we do not fuel, we cannot thrive. Now I know better, I don’t weigh myself. I don’t fear weight gain. And I honor my body and its hunger signals — because honoring my Boyd is the only way I can thrive.
🙈EVER CONSIDERING QUITTING RACES BECAUSE MY PACING WAS OFF
I’ve only *almost* done this 2 times — at the Boston Marathon & CIM Marathon— & luckily I talked sense back into myself, kept myself in the game, refound gratitude in a disappointing race, & realized how privileged I was — no matter what pace— to be running & finishing a marathon.
🙈SEEING OTHER GIRLS AS COMPETITION & NOT ALLIES/TEAMMATES
This is total silliness but something so many of us girls fall down the rabbit hole of. Insecurity & jealousy robs us of the potential to get stronger together. Don’t let it sabotage your potential, & don’t let it take up unnecessary emotional energy. We NEED our sisters in sport to thrive. We truly are BETTER TOGETHER!
🙈PUTTING SO MUCH OF MY VALUE INTO MY RUN RESULTS
I feel like an old, mellow, wiser runner now. HAHA. But I spent so much of my time feeling like my run results defined me & spoke to my potential. THEY DON’T. You can be a winner that hasn’t seen your big breakthrough yet— but that doesn’t mean you’re not a winner. A winner KNOWS who they are — & they stay tough & persistent until they get that win. YOU. ARE. A. WINNER.
