🤎🇲🇽🤎 My eyes tell the story of my ancestors, the window to my soul. I am the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants that came here seeking a better life. Both of my grandfathers worked in California during the Bracero Program to try to provide for their families back home. My maternal grandfather was in the process of receiving a green card for him and his whole family but was tragically murdered when my mother was only 6 years old. Leaving my grandmother, aged 34 at the time, with no other option than to leave her hometown in Zacatecas, México and find work as a housemaid for a German family in El Paso, Texas. I will not share the rest of the struggles my family faced to get here because frankly I'm afraid something I say can be used against us. I will always be proud of my roots and call out injustice when I see it. Be proud of who you are, be proud of where you come from, and most importantly be KIND! The world can be such a beautiful place if we do the work to be kind to one another. 🙌🏽
