From the Designer and Artist:
Last April I visited Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes and developed a passionate yearning to design something with the florals of the Poblana style Mexican dress inspired by the shapes of art deco. During the dictatorship of Mexican President Porfirio Diaz construction began in 1904 on the performance venue palace of fine arts and was completed after the Mexican Revolution thirty years later. Though the outside of this performance venue is in the style of art nouveau and classical, the interior is richly art deco, the major design style of this era. Tiffany’s in New York designed a stained glass foldable panel created out of nearly a million pieces of iridescent colored glass for the theater’s “curtain” — a rare remaining survivor of many commissioned by countries around the world in the early 1900s with many meeting their demise during reformation of those collapsed governments. This curtain curation inspiration will develop over next year for a Mexican art collab series in Mexico City.
