Thirty years ago, tourism to Northern Ireland was almost non-existent. Now, the country's newfound sense of optimism is once again luring travellers to its shores.

It's a sunny Saturday evening in Derry, Northern Ireland, and Ebrington Square on the northern banks of the River Foyle is buzzing. Tourists enjoy a drink on the terrace of the newly opened Ebrington Hotel & Spa. A busker draws a crowd outside the Embankment Bar & Grill and drinkers at the Walled City Brewery overflow onto the pavement.

Roared on by a partisan home crowd, Dart fought back from a double break down in both the first and second set before wrapping up a 7-5 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 victory in nearly three and a half hours.

It is Dart's best win of the year by ranking, with the 27-year-old wildcard ranked 68 places below Czech Bouzkova.

She will face former Wimbledon champion and world number four Rybakina, who received a bye in the first round, on Wednesday.

The Aston Martins sandwich Hamilton, who was second fastest behind Russell after the first runs in the top 10 shootout.

Neither Mercedes driver improved on their second laps, but the 0.28secs gap between the pair allowed six drivers to slot in between them by the end of the session.

The final place in the top 10 was taken by Williams driver Alex Albon.

When Graham Taylor was England manager, his role was referred to by a documentary crew as an "impossible job". Sebastien Migne smiles wryly when he is asked whether he has the position that really deserves that title.

Migne is the new manager of Haiti, with the brief of guiding them to a first men's World Cup for half a century.

Barcelona defender Chadi Riad, who spent last season on loan at Real Betis, will have a medical at Crystal Palace this week before joining the Eagles in a move worth £12m plus £2m in add-ons.

Palace have been in talks since last week over the centre-back and a deal now appears close to completion.

The 20-year-old, who has played twice for Morocco, joined Betis from Barcelona last summer and made 30 appearances last season.

Northampton’s narrow loss to Leinster in the Investec Champions Cup semi-finals shows they have the potential to be one of the best club sides in the world, says flanker Courtney Lawes.

Leinster won 20-17 in front of more than 82,000 at Croke Park, but were pushed hard by the Saints who came from 20-3 down to set-up a thrilling finish.

Lawes says Saints must use that experience as they look to become a leading force in club rugby.

“A lot of players have never played in front of anywhere near that amount of people,” the former England captain told BBC 5 live.

“It takes time to be able perform on a stage like that. It’s a great experience for the boys to get under their belt and to understand what it takes to win at the highest level.”

A Saints legend, 35-year-old Lawes will leave Northampton in the summer to join Brive after 17 seasons at Franklin’s Gardens.

“We have proven [on Saturday] we have got what it takes to be one of the best teams in the world,” he added.

“It’s now up to us to push on, for me to push on until the end of the season and the boys beyond that.

“I am excited to see how far the boys can take it.”

Lawes hopes the Champions Cup run – and the experience of knockout rugby - will benefit Saints as they look to win the Premiership for the first time since 2014.

Phil Dowson’s side have a four-point lead at the top of the league with two rounds of the regular season remaining.

“It’s not doing the fancy stuff [in knockout games], it’s actually just doing the basics and getting your game on the pitch,” Lawes added.

“Hopefully we can continue to learn and make sure we get it right for the end of the season.”

Scotland and Glasgow Warriors ho**er Fraser Brown is to retire at the end of this season.

Brown, 34, has not played since May 2023 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) playing for a World XV versus the Barbarians.

Capped 61 times by Scotland, he played at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and scored five international tries.

He began his professional career at Edinburgh in 2010 and moved to Glasgow three years later, helping Warriors win the Pro12 in 2015.

Brown, who could also play in the back row, went on to make 141 Glasgow appearances, the last of which was the 2023 European Challenge Cup final defeat by Toulon.

Experienced Scotland full-back Chloe Rollie will make her first start of the 2024 Six Nations against England.

Rollie, 28, has come off the bench in Scotland's two matches so far after returning from injury, having started on all 61 of her previous appearances.

It means Meryl Smith shifts to inside centre as ho**er Lana Skeldon returns, having missed the loss to France with a knee injury.

Elis Martin and Lisa Thomson are the players to drop to the bench.

Megan Jones and Tatyana Heard are among seven changes for England who face Wales in the Women's Six Nations at Bristol's Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Leicester's Jones and Gloucester-Hartpury's Heard form a new partnership at centre, while Emily Scarratt and the injured Helena Rowland are out.

Both played in last weekend's 48-0 victory over Italy in Parma.

The Red Roses will play in front of their largest home crowd for a fixture not played at Twickenham.

"To have sold 18,000 tickets with two days to go until matchday shows the appetite for Red Roses rugby in this country," said head coach John Mitchell.

Prior to the tournament Mitchell said he would rotate his squad and the 60-year-old remains true to his word.

"Tatyana [Heard] can win the gainline and that is one of her big strengths," added Mitchell.

"Meg [Jones] is a little dynamo, she is quick, a triple threat and a huge competitor. They've played together before which I think is a good combination."

He has also picked a new half-back pairing in Natasha Hunt and Holly Aitchison.

Lock Zoe Aldcroft retains her place in the starting XV and will win her 50th cap, while captain Marlie Packer, who made her 100th appearance in Italy, also starts.

Men's captain George takes England women's session
Elsewhere in the pack, prop Maud Muir and second row Rosie Galligan start, with Alex Matthews promoted from the bench to number eight.

This comes after Sarah Beckett was given a three-week suspension following her red card against Italy for a dangerous clear-out.

The back three of Jess Breach, Abby Dow and Ellie Kildunne, who scored two tries in Parma, remain unchanged.

"Some returning players [against Italy] had difficult starts, but each of those players will get better and better," Mitchell added.

Wales have made six changes after narrowly losing their opening game to Scotland in Cardiff last weekend, with scrum-half Sian Jones making her first start.

England are seeking a third successive Grand Slam and a sixth successive Six Nations title.

Emily Scarratt and Zoe Harrison have returned from long-term injuries to make England Women's Six Nations squad.

Bristol lock Abbie Ward also returns to international duty for the first time since the 2022 World Cup final after giving birth to her daughter.

The 35-woman squad includes uncapped trio Maddie Feaunati and Lizzie Hanlon of Exeter Chiefs, and Trailfinders' Vicky Laflin.

Poppy Cleall is also included despite currently serving a two-match ban.

The Saracens back row was banned last week for using foul language towards a referee.

Red Roses head coach John Mitchell says Cleall was always going to be selected but has put herself in "a more difficult situation amongst the competition" now she is unavailable for selection for their opening game in Italy on Sunday, 24 March.

Mitchell also explained why she had been dropped from a training camp earlier this year, saying: "Poppy was asked to change some behaviour in her game.

"She's obviously very experienced, she has played the game in a particular way that has brought her success but we're wanting to get quicker in what we do and we want more involvements.

"What I loved about the way Poppy went about it is she worked really hard on shifting on that area. We've backed her return as a result of that."

Meanwhile, Cleall's Saracens team-mate Sydney Gregson might make her first England appearance in nine years after winning her last cap in 2015.

Back-row Feaunati, who is eligible for England, Samoa and New Zealand, earns a first call-up after impressing for Chiefs and catching the eye of Red Roses coach Sarah Hunter.

Mitchell said the 21-year-old is "young and athletic" and her selection was an important consideration with some "aging back-rowers" in his squad.

England are defending their Grand Slam Six Nations title with Mitchell insisting the Red Roses "need to play quicker" with the hope that his squad can "create even more pressure on the opposition".

Marlie Packer will continue as England captain as Ward and Scarratt, who have both previously operated as vice-captains, will focus on their return to playing.

Having shaken off their World Cup disappointment, Ireland have picked up exactly where they left off in the Six Nations arena.

Showing no signs of teething issues in the post-Johnny Sexton era, Andy Farrell's side have opened the 2024 championship with victories over France, Italy and Wales.

Their dominance has naturally fuelled talk of them becoming the first team in the Six Nations era to complete back-to-back Grand Slams, although they still have England and Scotland to come.

Were Ireland to secure a bonus-point win at Twickenham on 9 March, they would win the title with a game to spare.

The Ireland squad for this year's Women's Six Nations squad includes five members of the Sevens squad who won the World Series event in Perth in January.

Béibhinn Parsons, Eve Higgins and Aoibheann Reilly were among those who were part of Ireland's historic title win, beating Australia in the final.

Edel McMahon and Sam Monaghan continue as co-captains, having assumed the role for the WXV3 tournament in Dubai.

Ireland's 34-player squad includes eight uncapped players.

Ruth Campbell and Katie Whelan, who were part of the WXV3 squad, as well as Chisom Ugwueru, Katie Corrigan, Katie Heffernan and Clare Gorman, have all impressed in this year's Celtic Challenge campaign and earn a first Ireland call-up, while uncapped IQ Rugby duo Andrea Stock and Shannon Ikahihifo are also included by head coach Scott Bemand.

Natasja Behan and Katie Heffernan are selected, having also been members of the Ireland Sevens squad.

Ireland begin their Six Nations campaign away to France on Saturday 23 March, before facing Italy at home at the RDS on Sunday 31 March.

After a down week, they resume with another home fixture at Musgrave Park, against Wales, on Saturday 13 April, then Bemand's side are away to England at Twickenham on Saturday 20 April.

Ireland conclude by hosting Scotland at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast on Saturday 27 April.

In addition to the 34 players included in the squad, Bemand has named seven players in a wider training panel who will also assemble at the IRFU High Performance Centre when camp commences on Monday 26, February, namely India Daley, Kate Flannery, Hannah O'Connor, Maeve Óg O'Leary, Ivana Kiripati, Leah Tarpey and Kayla Waldron.
