Today is Birthmom’s Day! A day and time that I’ve always struggled with…. Almost 39 years ago… I was a scared young mom just trying to do the best for my precious daughter. I made a decision that would affect both of us the rest of our lives. I made a decision with the knowledge I had at the time for us. It’s been rough for both of us these past almost 39 years…. We never quit thinking about each other or searching for one another. We both felt that our hearts were missing a piece.

This years Birthmom Day feels different! It has a peace rather than heartache. It has a fullness rather than emptiness. It has joy rather than sadness. Why, because of forgiveness, ownership of past mistakes , grace, lots of hard work, lots of tough talks & a forever love for each other… that is why this year feels different. The past isn’t wiped away or forgotten ever …. But the present sure feels a lot better! Elizabeth & I are once again together again! We have worked so hard to be where we are today. Years of prayer, heartache & longing for each other has brought us here.

If you are a birthmom like myself, I want you to know that you gave the most precious gift anyone could give! The gift of life & love to a family that otherwise wouldn’t have had that. Your sacrifice, heartache & pain doesn’t go unnoticed. You will never ever forget your child or the missing piece in your heart. Pray for them & continue to love them …. You never know what God has in store!

MOM update: in mid March, my mom had another pet scan. The PET scan showed 10 new spots. 🥹 we had been told by doctors that at some point she would be getting too many spots to radiate any longer. Well, sadly, we’ve reached that point. The next step was defined an immunotherapy that would fit her cancer type and wouldn’t make her deathly ill like it did in 2024. But… While doctors were working on that, MOM was finding herself dizzy and short of breath. I took her to the ER and found out. She had pneumonia with pneumonia and one lung and cancer in the other lung. This was causing shortness of breath and dizziness. She went for a follow up with her PC for the pneumonia and he told her he didn’t think the dizziness would go away when the pneumonia got better. Shock. 😳 my mom was shocked! Why not she asked? He very calmly told her that he believed her aorta valve. Her heart was to the point of needing to be replaced. Immediate déjà vu struck. 🫠 as many of you remember, my dad had five open heart surgeries in 10 days to replace an aorta valve and barely live through it by the grace of God PTSD emotions came flooding back as we heard these words. After a few more doctors appointments, we met with the heart surgeon. My mom was told that at 92. She is a candidate for the updated version of the valve replacement surgery. They would not do it open heart like they did my dad and doctors think it would help her stamina and overall feeling better in general. The doctor likened her heart valve to a rusty hinge on a door… At 92 years old, the hinges are just worn out. Granted most surgeries come with risks and of course my mom has some higher risks than others due to age in a couple other extenuating heart factors. At this point… She has decided to do exactly what my dad did… She’s going to die trying you see… The doctors have told us that there will be no heroics if something happens during surgery, they will not bail her out. She will go see Jesus. She says this is a win-win for her because immunotherapy has been put on hold until her heart is fixed. She has been dreading starting immunotherapy because of how sick she was before… see comments

My 60th Birthday Weekend was a birthday I’ll never forget! So many laughs, amazing friends, great food, nascar & memories to last a lifetime! Thank you to everyone who made a rough day so much better! Your love and care mean the world to me!
