I graduated grad school last week with a 3.9 GPA. truthfully, i never imagined this for myself. In high school and college, I graduated with a 2.5. I’m learning disabled and ADHD as the day as long. i’ve always considered myself kind of a black sheep, and school has never felt like it was for me. But I feel pretty much exactly where I wanted to be at 30. Since i started school, I’ve made one short film and one web series pilot which have been selected in virtual festivals all over the world and both had an iconic double feature premiere at littlefield. I pitched a movie to an indie studio in LA. I adapted, directed, produced, and designed a musical TV show off-broadway starring incredibly talented kids that I was able to do with the partial support of my school that’s now on a new streaming AVOD service (IFT Network!!!), which was both the hardest thing I’ve ever done and also a complete dream come true. I started working off-Broadway in a real way as a producing apprentice and as a house manager (where I just produced and stage managed my first Off-Broadway theatre festival). I studied abroad in Vancouver, met awesome, amazing, beautiful people. I interned at the Vancouver international film festival. I had a reading at the Annoyance Theatre in Chicago. My co hort and I wrote season 1 of a TV show as a writers room and then re wrote it as a pilot in one semester which we filmed where I was the 2nd AD, co casting director, set decorator & even got roped into acting in. I wrote original 3 pilots and half of a spec (still working on it). I’ve traveled all over the place and pretty much had a blast anywhere I went. My company, Unattended Baggage will be mounting not one, but two, Off Broadway premieres this summer. These last two years there were breakups of every kind, deaths, weddings, and a whirlwind of change. It’s a Mister Toad’s Wild Ride to be getting my degree in TV Writing while there’s a literal TV writers strike, and there’s so much uncertainty ahead, but for now, I’m feeling grateful. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to my friends, family, and everyone who has been a part of my journey and cheered me on. I couldn’t do it without you.
