Megan Keith says she could not have dreamt of the impact she was going to make at 10,000m when she raced the distance for the first time as "an experiment" three months ago.

The Inverness athlete continued her remarkable rise since stepping up by claiming bronze at the European Championships in Rome in what was just her third 10,000m race.

Molly Caudery can be forgiven for finding herself drifting into daydreams when she allows herself to indulge in thoughts of Paris 2024.

After all, it was not so long ago that none of this seemed plausible to the 24-year-old. Or not so soon, at least.

Now Caudery is a world champion. Thrust from her preferred role as underdog, she has had no choice but to re-evaluate her goals amid what can only be described as a "whirlwind" period, in what is still only the dawn of her career.

Maurizio Sarri resigns: Lazio manager quits after fifth defeat in six games

Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has resigned after a fifth defeat in six games in all competitions.

Monday's 2-1 home defeat by Udinese left Lazio ninth in Serie A, seven points off the final European qualification place.

They were knocked out the Champions League last week by Bayern Munich.

Sarri, 65, joined Lazio in 2021 and led them to second place in Serie A last season, their best league finish since they won the title in 1999-2000.

Assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello has been placed in interim charge.

Lazio travel to third-bottom Frosinone on Saturday. They face Juventus in the semi-finals of the Italian Cup over two legs next month.

Sarri spent one season at Chelsea in 2018-19, when he won the Europa League, finished third in the Premier League and reached the Carabao Cup final.

Before joining Chelsea he led hometown club Napoli to two second-place finishes in three years and was named Serie A manager of the year in 2016-17.

He won the title with Juventus in 2019-20.

On the latest episode of BBC Radio Manchester's The Devils' Advocate podcast, Gaz Drinkwater, Jay Motty and Kim Burdett spoke about the win over Aston Villa and the performances of their young attacking players.

"Now we've got that front line, especially [Alejandro] Garnacho and [Rasmus] Hojlund, who feel like they have that threat that we've not had, especially since the back end of last year. I feel like they can win any game even if they're not playing necessarily well," said Gaz.

"I think Garnacho has been our best player this season."

Jay replied: "I think he's been very good. I like that he keeps going and keeps trying.

"Yes he can be a bit greedy at times but he's a kid who can score goals so I don't blame him too much but he doesn't give up running at his defender. I want to see that.

"Back in the day when we used to win things, if Ryan Giggs ran at a full-back and got tackled he wouldn't give up, he'd keep going and Garnacho has that about him.

"I'd rather see that than an attacking player who's going to stop, turn backwards and just not have the ability to run at players and he does that.

"And he must be a nightmare to play against."

Inter Milan went four points clear at the top of Serie A with a win over Juventus that was decided by a Federico Gatti own goal.

A cross from the right bounced off Gatti's chest in the 37th minute to put Inter ahead.

Federico Dimarco's low ball behind the defence put Inter's Marcus Thuram through on goal but he was denied by a last-ditch tackle from Gleison Bremer.

Inter have a game in hand over second-placed Juve and third-placed AC Milan.

The visitors to the San Siro had their chances, Dusan Vlahovic missing a gilt-edged opportunity for the Bianconeri when a poor first touch let him down following Weston McKennie's pass.

The Serbia striker also attempted an overhead kick from a corner which sailed over the bar.

Nicolo Barella's strike on the volley was brilliantly saved by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who also denied substitute Marko Arnautovic late on.

The Nerazzurri are the only side yet to concede a league goal after the 75th minute this season.

Inter, who travel to Roma on Saturday, last won Serie A in the 2020-21 campaign.

Istanbul Basaksehir fine and loan out Israel's Eden Karzev for social media post

Istanbul Basaksehir have fined Israeli midfielder Eden Karzev following his social media post in support of his compatriots being held hostage in Gaza.

The Turkish Super Lig club have also sent the player out on loan to Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv following disciplinary proceedings.

On Instagram, Karzev had shared the slogan calling to "Bring them home now" in reference to the hostages.

Basaksehir said his post had "violated the sensitive values of our country".

The incident follows Sagiv Jehezkel also returning home to Israel from Turkey after making a gesture of solidarity with hostages in Gaza.

Jehezkel, who signed for Antalyaspor in September, was celebrating an equaliser in a Turkish Super Lig match on Sunday when he held up his bandaged hand that read "100 days. 7/10".

The bandage also included a star of David.

Sunday marked 100 days since Hamas launched its deadly attacks on southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people, mainly civilians. About 240 people were taken back to Gaza as hostages, approximately 132 of whom are still being held.
