Is doctrine important? Absolutely! But it’s the FRUIT of our lives that proves what we really believe. Let’s be less concerned with what people say they believe and more concerned with how they live.
Self reflection time, what does your life communicate? What kind of fruit do others see?

Introducing the ‘Reversed’ collection with 3 unique ways to show the world your view has been changed.
Truth - has your view of truth been reversed? Jesus says in John 8:32, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” We don’t just study the truth or find it buried in facts, we follow the truth.
Freedom - has your view of freedom been reversed? Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:16 to “Live as free people, bud do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” Our freedom is to do God’s will, not our own.
Religion - has your view of religion been reversed? James tells us in James 1:27 “Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” Religion isn’t just something we are a part of, like a membership, it’s how we live and treat people in need.

One thing we can all agree on is that division within our society is on the rise. We have found so many lines to divide ourselves on and yet the cry for tolerance and acceptance has never been louder.
So where does the Gospel fit in with such a hostile environment all around us? How do we relate to people around us when they seem to be more sensitive and defensive than ever?
In Matthew 5:9, Jesus starts off his most famous sermon on the mount by telling a crowd of people that “God blesses those who work for peace….” Not those who feed the fires of division, but those who work for peace.
These are timely words for us today. According to Jesus, the best way to stand out in a society of division and hostility is to “work for peace.” We are called, as followers of Jesus, to find ways to calm the storm and bridge the divide with love and kindness, not widen the divide. It’s easy to get caught up in the storm of ‘standing for what’s right,’ but when we do that, we have to ask ourselves if we’re really bringing the type of message Jesus came to bring. His message will always bring division, but the division He brought was between those willing to live sacrificially and those not. Those willing to lay down their lives to become servants and those who are not.
Let’s be people whose lives are marked by how we live and treat others, not by which side of the arguments we stand on. Let’s work for peace, not division.

My view of truth was completely reversed in 2003 and my life hasn’t been the same since. I learned what it means to be a son, a friend, and eventually a husband and father. I’ve made drastically different decisions because of my new view and become a better man because of it. I could have spent my whole life living for myself, but because someone took the time to befriend me, share the truth, and love me, I’ve been changed.

Most of what we think we believe is different from what we actually believe. For those of us who are followers of Jesus we wrestle with this more than anyone because of all the things we’re ‘supposed’ to believe by calling ourselves Christians. The PROCESS of becoming like Jesus begins in a moment, but there is still A LOT of work to do. The best way to tell what we actually believe is to look at our life. If you exercise regularly, it speaks to a belief you have about fitness and health. If you go to college or attend graduate school, it speaks to a belief you have about education. If you stay up late, it speaks to a belief you have about rest.
So what do we do when our actions don’t line up with what we think we believe? In order to answer that, you have to ask yourself, are you afraid to see what you REALLY believe? If you’re not afraid, then you might find that you don’t actually believe what you thought you did.
In Deuteronomy (8:2) Moses tells the Israelites, “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness theses forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.” Moses shows us that what’s in our heart (our beliefs) determines whether or not we keep his commands (our actions).
God isn’t afraid to see what’s really in our hearts. He wants to reveal it so that we can exchange our old destructive beliefs for new life giving ones. The only question is, are you open to that exchange?
Comment below with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Sometimes we feel the need to stand up for our beliefs, but in the process, we stop loving the people around us. In all of our defending we end up making enemies of the people around us rather than loving them. We get easily dragged into ‘identity politics’ and choose sides that we were never intended to choose.
Jesus told His disciples that “EVERYONE will know that you are my disciples, if you LOVE one another.” (John 13:35) If you’re a follower of Jesus, you may often feel the need to defend and protect your belief system whenever you feel like it’s being attacked. While this seems like the ‘right’ thing to do, Jesus never told us to defend our beliefs. His primary instructions to His disciples were to follow Him and love each other. If you do those two things, your lifestyle will defend your beliefs.
