Try a day without an immigrant again? The current situation our community faces is profoundly unjust and demands a unified response. The lack of solidarity among Latinos from all backgrounds is a significant obstacle to our collective progress and empowerment.
Consider the immense economic contribution of the Latino community. A coordinated, one-day nationwide work stoppage would unequivocally demonstrate our vital role in the economy. Such an action would create immediate and significant economic pressure, compelling a resolution to the issues we face.
However, for this to succeed, we must overcome our internal divisions. It is disheartening when some within our community distance themselves from their immigrant roots and shared heritage. Now is the time to move beyond words and commit to genuine unity. Our strength lies in our ability to stand together, and it is imperative that we do so now.
As a next step, we must also demand accountability from our elected officials. Contact your representatives and urge them to launch an official inquiry into the hiring and training protocols for federal immigration agents. The concerning conduct and apparent lack of empathy displayed by most agents raise serious questions about their qualifications. Congress must investigate the possibility that political loyalists, including individuals previously pardoned for acts of insurrection, have been appointed to these roles without adequate training or oversight.
