This weekend we spent time at a few breweries and wandered around Chinatown. Being a tourist in your own city is so much fun!

Each weekend we are checking out a different neighborhood. Yesterday we were in Echo Park. We found some new artwork for the apartment, and yummy beverages. The was truly amazing!

I am very lucky. This could have been so much worse.

The evacuation notice was for just a few blocks north of us. We had masks on and still had trouble breathing. Runyon was engulfed in flames, it looked surreal. We told neighbors to start packing.

Because of seeing the devastation of Altadena and the Palisades, I had time to make a mental checklist. I looked at our photos on our walls and had to think of which ones I didn’t have digital copies of.

Our street was a parking lot. All the people closer to the fire were fleeing south. We packed up the car and waited. We were technically not in an evacuation zone (by a half block), and we wanted to make sure those that were in an evacuation zone could get out.

We watched air drops of water, and thought again how lucky we are. Two days ago, hurricane force winds made it impossible for other neighborhoods to have that much needed help.

I am beyond lucky that I have you wonderful people, some of which I haven’t seen in years or even decades, who contacted me. Thank you for offering us a place to stay if we needed it.

It’s not over. Winds are supposed to begin again, so we will stay packed and ready to go. Right now, we will stay put and monitor the situation.

Last night was one of the scariest of my life, and it was nothing compared to what friends and neighbors have experienced.
