Hello friends!! SO very sorry for the vanishing act for several weeks, now. Good Lord things get busy on my end sometimes. We did a bit of traveling in our retro camper, had tea event after tea event, book readings, music performances, and my art shop has taken off with projects, many of which are time sensitive.
Life is good, but busy, busy busy!
So, I’ll be getting back at it now on FB with more style and fashion posts. Here are just some of the photos from the past month since my down time of here. As you can see, I did a bit of a deep dive into “Carrie’s Closet”. 😜🤣
Also, this page will be morphing over into the “fashion” section of our all-encompassing page, Our Technicolor Life, here on Facebook. I’ll let you know when that happens.
Working on my first real post in a while on “Carrie’s Closet” as we explore a true favorite on-line shop of mine, Unique Vintage. I should own stock in this store! I’d recoup some of what I have spent in this shop over the years! 😜
Thank you for hanging in there! Now, let’s have some fun in the closet! 🥰

🌴🎥 Heading to Wakulla Springs in Florida! 🌊 Being near this iconic location where they filmed Tarzan underwater swimming scenes with Johnny Weissmuller and the classic Creature From the Black Lagoon is truly incredible. 🎬 Last year, we explored the Lodge and took a fantastic boat excursion. This year, I came fully prepared with my Creature dress and matching parasols, embracing the movie magic! 🐊

As mentioned in my previous post, Cincinnati is a vintage Mecca. There are more than a dozen vintage clothing shops in the greater Cinci area. I do have my favorites, but there are some that I haven’t even visited. Of those not visited, they appeared to specialize in mostly ‘80s and ‘90s vintage. Not my thing.
Again, my top four vintage shops in the “Queen City” are Pixel Base Alpha, Talk of The Town, Casablanca and Mannequin. We explored some of my great finds at Pixel previously, so let me talk about the other three. Talk of the Town is located on the outskirts of town on Reading Rd. This is a wonderful shop with a fantastic collection. I have found some of my most prized gowns, two-piece outfits and hats here. The owner and staff are amazing! This shop is always on my go-to list when visiting Cincinnati. Casablanca Vintage is another shop that has great collections of vintage. I might mention that Jeff has had great luck at both of of these, so their men’s vintage is on-point as well. If your guy is looking for a vintage suit, you should definitely check out both - Jeff has found some really great suits at both. Mannequin is another favorite of mine. I usually can always find something there, and it is usually something truly unique. The shop owner is so great and she works really hard to find new pieces to add.
Other great vintage shops in Cincinnati include: Hi-Bred, NVISION, New2You Uptown, and Sweet Dahlia, plus others.
My suggestion? Plan a vintage shopping weekend in the Queen City! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the least. 🥰

One of the cities that I have discovered to have some of THE BEST vintage shops is Cincinnati, OH. The city, for whatever reason, is a Mecca for vintage! I have probably found close to fifty vintage dresses that I absolutely love in this city alone! Anytime we go to Cinci, I come back home with amazing finds.
My top four vintage shops in the “Queen City” are Pixel Base Alpha, Talk of The Town, Casablanca and Mannequin. But, with that said, there are probably another half-dozen or more that are worthy of a visit! SO much vintage in this city!!
So, over the next few posts I am going to do a little “show & tell” on what makes the Queen City the King of all things vintage. 👑
First, let me introduce you to Pixel Alpha Base Warehouse (and Pixel 19 Vintage). This is a huge warehouse type store that specializes in supplying costuming to Hollywood for period movies. This place has to be seen to be believed. It is massive! They advertise that they have over 300,000 vintage pieces at any one time, and I believe it! I met the owners, Stu and Amanda, on my first visit there and they saw that I was into 1940s-1950s vintage by my style and look, so Amanda offered to take me to her “by invitation only” early vintage collection of 1930s-1950s vintage. I was blown away!! I thought I had died and gone to vintage heaven!! Needless to say, I came home with a car load on that trip. Their main floor area runs from mainly 1960s-1990s on vintage apparel.
Plan to spend some time here if you go. Due to their work with studios on the west coast, their hours can be a bit of a challenge. They are closed on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The are open Sundays 12-5, Mondays & Tuesdays 11-2 and Thursdays & Fridays 11-5. I always call first to make sure they are open even if it is within their posted hours. These are busy people and sometimes they are making multiple trips to Hollywood during the week and that can affect the store’s hours at times. ⏰ You can also arrange for a personal shopping experience with Stu, Amanda and staff.
Remember, this is not your typical “vintage shop”, it is a warehouse. So, it doesn’t look like much from the outside. But, believe me, what is inside is SO worth exploring!
The photos that follow are all outfits that I found at Pixel in Cincinnati on one single trip! Just writing about them makes me want to plan another trip to this great city! 🥰❤️🥰
(We had to do a little photo shoot following our trip.) 🥰😁

So, let’s talk about the quest of finding true vintage. Whenever Jeff and I travel, we always do internet research to try to find out what possible vintage clothing shops, antique stores or flea markets might be in the general area of where we intend to visit and explore. I have found some of my most prized pieces this way. We are fortunate in that our home base is in an area that offers several really great vintage clothing shops and antique malls within a few hours drive. Louisville, the closest big city to us, has a vintage clothing shop gem in The Nitty Gritty. I have found SO many great pieces there! The era range is anywhere from the 1930s thru the 1980s. I tend to focus on mid-century fashion. It’s what I like. So, I generally have my sights set on 1950s and 1960s vintage. Shops like Nitty, that have passionate owners, will always be getting new stuff in. So, if one trip doesn’t provide much luck, the next trip may bring multiple treasures. The Nitty Gritty has a page, and you should definitely check it out!
Nitty is just one of many vintage shops I love to support. I’ll branch out a little further as we go along and explore the vintage treasures I’ve found in other areas of the country. A couple of these places will blow your mind!
Check out some of my true vintage finds at The Nitty Gritty in the pics that follow! (Owner Terri Burt is shown with me in the last photo.) ❤️
