We are pleased to express our gratitude to the Louisville community as we approach our 40th anniversary on April 28. Customers often inquire about our entry into the fur industry. In 1962, my father, John Seelye, graduated from Borden High School and initially planned to attend drafting school. However, he decided to secure employment while pursuing his education and was hired by Stewart’s Department Store. He was assigned to the fur department, where he accepted garments for storage, and prepared work orders. The fur buyer recognized his potential and suggested a career as a furrier. My father observed the store’s furrier, who was nearing retirement, and received valuable guidance. Supplementing this guidance with knowledge gained from vintage furrier text books at Stewart’s, he effectively taught himself the craft. The accompanying photographs depict one of my father’s earliest solo fur creations. Through self-directed learning, he mastered the entire process, from start to finish. Having been immersed in the fur industry my entire life, I have benefited from my father’s expertise and acquired knowledge becoming a furrier myself. My father never explored leather-working, that is my own trade that I’ve learned on my own. Over the years, we have created exceptional pieces, formed lasting friendships, and met remarkable individuals. Our customers have become an integral part of our extended family. We express our heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support, friendship, and patronage throughout these 40 years. I look forward to continuing to serve our community in the years to come. To commemorate this milestone, I will offer a 40% discount on all new fur inventory on April 28th and 29th.
