Upcycling old clothing and materials that still have a lot of life left to offer by rescuing them from the rows of thrift store racks where they face certain banishment to a landfill.

Here’s a great illustration about the effects of fast fashion and how thrifting/upcycling can change that impact.

Our planet only has so much space for all of the items our society has deemed as disposable. It’s one of the biggest reasons I started upcycling old clothing.

Does that mean I never buy new items or donate usable clothing and household goods? Certainly not. It means I am a lot more thoughtful about what, where and why I purchase new items. It means I try to get my donations into the hands of organizations that find immediate use for them (think women’s shelters, habitat stores, etc.). It’s being a bit more intentional in my consumption of goods.

And then there’s the fun part, taking an old Tshirt, sweatshirt, quilt or other item and bringing it back to life in a fun and creative way. Join me on the journey.

In northern Chile's Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, enormous piles of discarded clothing have accumulated as a result of the global fast-fashion industry.

An estimated tens of thousands of tonnes of unsold, donated, or discarded garments are transported to the region each year. Many items cannot be resold or recycled economically and are instead dumped in the desert, creating massive textile waste sites that can be identified in satellite imagery.

Much of this clothing contains synthetic fibers derived from plastics, which can persist in the environment for decades while releasing microplastics as they slowly degrade.

The growing textile waste crisis has intensified calls for improved recycling, circular fashion systems, and more sustainable clothing production worldwide.

Fun and quick little project done for a local show featuring a great blues guitarist and singer, Casey James. He played here last year and the shirt I picked up then was in my stash to upcycle into something original that I’ll actually wear. Casey graciously signed it for me and now I have a cool keepsake from an artist I’ve followed since he was the third place finisher on season 9 of American Idol.

Do you have your own nostalgic piece that you’d like to see turned into something special? Let me know! I especially love re-working old band and concert tees into one-of-a-kind treasures! 👕➡️🪎

People really think resellers are “stealing from the poor” meanwhile this is what the back of Goodwill looks like 😭

Mountains of donations, bins overflowing, racks packed… trust me, there is PLENTY to go around.

Resellers aren’t the problem… we’re literally helping move the stuff before it ends up in a landfill. ♻️

Well, after a little hiccup at opening this morning, I was finally able to stock my booth inside Vendor Row at closing today. Hanging each of these little projects on hangers and attaching a price tag was a little like letting a piece of me go (in fact I couldn’t let one piece go, more on that one later). Stop by during business hours and check out all of my pieces. I’ll be adding to the collection as I create new ones. For now here’s a quick peek at a few of my favorites.
