Twenty years ago today, God entrusted us with one of our greatest blessings … you. 💛

And somehow, today, you celebrate your 20th birthday on the 20th ... your Golden Birthday. It seems fitting because your life has always been a gift worth celebrating.

Watching you grow from a little boy into the young man you are today has been one of the greatest joys of our life. We have watched you work hard, overcome challenges, chase your dreams, and become someone of integrity and compassion. We hope you always know that we are proud of you … not because of what you accomplish, but because of who you are.

As you step into this new decade, our prayer is that you will continue to seek the Lord in everything you do. May He guide your steps, strengthen your faith, open doors that no one can close, and remind you every day that your identity is found in Him.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5–6

I think this was one of my all-time favorite trees I ever decorated. 🎄💚 A little rustic, a little farmhouse, and a whole lot of personality. Those shotgun shells made the perfect finishing touch!

I sure do miss decorating trees in the middle of summer and dreaming up fun, unexpected themes. It's funny how something as simple as a box of old shotgun shells can spark so much creativity.

Looks like I need to start keeping my eyes open for more shells ... you never know when inspiration (or another Christmas tree) might come along.

Maybe I will have to put my Christmas tree up soon.

One of the things that truly makes America great is simple: supporting small businesses.

To all my market friends … if you ever get the chance to bring vendors like this into your market, do it. Even if they can only come one day out of two or two out of three … book them. You will not regret it.

There is not one person who would leave disappointed in their menu .. 💯recommend.

From the quality, to the care, to the way everything is made and served … it’s just good people doing honest work.

And beyond the product, it’s the story. The cutest family. Real heart behind what they do.

The kind of business you don’t just buy from … you remember them.

The first and only wild game food truck in Virginia … The Harvest Hut has alligator, bison, venison, and more.

This is what “support local” really means. It’s community. It’s encouragement. It’s keeping families thriving and dreams alive.

We don’t just need more businesses … we need more people willing to show up for small businesses … that’s how communities stay alive, and still have the freedom to spend time with family in the middle of it all …. that’s the kind of freedom and balance that makes this country special.

And I will always say 🙌🏻yes 🙌🏻 to that.

So if you see them in town … go get you something different, try them out, and treat yourself.

There's something special about creating something with your hands.

As I made these shirts this past weekend, I kept thinking about the meaning behind 1776. It's more than a date … it's the beginning of a story that we're still a part of today.

No country is perfect, but I am grateful for the freedoms we have, the people who have fought to protect them, and the opportunity to gather with the people we love.

So before the fireworks light up the sky...

I remember when I was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer… everything just kind of stopped.

At the time, I had three little ones under the age of 3 1/2. Life wasn’t just busy … it was full-on survival mode. Diapers, naps, snacks, sleepless nights… and in the middle of all of that, doctor appointments and treatment. There wasn’t a lot of space to process what was actually happening.

You just keep moving because you have to.

Looking back now, I often think about how different things might have been if I had known then what I know now. Ten years earlier… I probably would have started changing things a lot sooner.

But life doesn’t really give you the clarity until you’re already walking through it. Let me just say that again … life doesn’t really give you the clarity until you’re already walking through it! 💯

Ten years after that thyroid cancer diagnosis came breast cancer. And now I’m 7 years out from that. Two diagnoses, two very different seasons of life, and a whole lot of lessons in between.

After my second diagnosis, something in me slowly started to shift. Not overnight, but in small, quiet ways. I found myself going back to basics … baking bread again, making soaps, lotions, and slowly learning about all the things tallow can offer … wanting to understand what I was putting in and on our bodies. It became less about “perfect” and more about “intentional.”

And I’ll be honest … rendering tallow is a lot harder than I thought it would be. This is love right here … more than sourdough bread, haha. It takes patience, time, and a little bit of letting go of control while it does its thing.

And now here I am … watching beef suet melt down in my crock pot, something I never imagined I’d be doing, but it somehow fits this whole journey. Slower living. Simpler choices. Paying attention in a different way than I ever used to.

I’ll be honest though … it’s not always easy. I wish I could say I’ve figured out healthy eating for the kids or that they’re always on board … but it doesn’t work like that in real life. Some days they are, some days they aren’t, and most days it’s just a mix of doing the best we can between sports, school, and busy schedules.

But I’m learning it doesn’t have to be perfect to still matter.

So as I sit here watching this tallow melt, I’m just grateful for the journey, even the hard parts. For the lessons I didn’t ask for. And for the small, simple changes that somehow add up over time.

Can you believe it’s almost been two years since Blue Mountain Barn closed?

Two years ago, we were loading up the trailer while fireworks lit up the sky at Thomas Road Baptist Church. It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on that milestone already.

We still find ourselves saying "yes" to projects from time to time. Sometimes it's helping a friend bring an idea to life, creating something behind the scenes, or simply using the gifts God has given us in a different way.

That's always been the heart behind Blue Mountain Barn ... taking someone's vision and helping make it a reality.

Even though our storefront is gone, the creativity never left. ❤️

So if you've ever wondered what we're up to these days … we're still here. Just a little quieter, a little more behind the scenes, and still enjoying opportunities to create, encourage, and support others along the way.

Maybe that's the beauty of seasons. They change, but the passions God places in our hearts remain.

Thank you for continuing to follow along. We love seeing familiar names pop up here, and who knows … maybe you'll see us pop up again somewhere when the timing is right. 😊

What a wonderful evening of creativity and community!

Ashtyn and I had such a great time teaching last night’s Texured Paste Workshop through Art-The Hill at CVCC. We loved spending time with everyone, seeing so many familiar faces, and meeting new friends along the way. This has been such an unexpected blessing. Through these workshops, we’ve been given the opportunity to continue sharing our love for creativity while connecting with our community in meaningful ways. We are truly grateful.

Art- The Hill is CVCC’s art revival, paying homage to Lynchburg’s Seven Hills. Thanks to a generous donation, the program offers a variety of creative experiences in visual arts, literature, music, and dance, bringing people together through the arts. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening so special. Your encouragement and support means so much to us.
