The first black women in history to attain a net worth of at least one billion dollars is Shelia Johnson the co-founder of BET, Black Entertainment and Television. BET gave African American artists a platform for their music and entertainment to air. In 2005 she went on to found Salamander Hospitality, a spa management and hotel firm.

Shelia was a powerhouse she was not afraid to try new things. This lead her to being an executive producer on the film Powerful Noise. Shelia gave many African American artists the platform they needed to start their career and for that Shelia will be forever a crucial part in many peoples life’s.

Fun Fact: She was the first woman to become a stakeholder in three sports teams.
