On March 8th, my Dad turned 75. We went out to visit him and got to enjoy some time outside playing with the kids in the sunshine. Inside, I noticed his orchid plant was in need of repotting. He said he thought he might try that because it hadn't bloomed in awhile. He gave me a big hug and we waved goodbye while driving away like always.
A few days later, we discovered no one had heard from him like usual. He was a very routine person and kept in touch often. We hoped for the best, but unfortunately, he had passed away just a day after his birthday. He had spent that day outside as well, celebrating with my sister.
We have since had his funeral after what felt like a whirlwind of events. It was a day he really would have loved. Sunny, warm, so many loved ones present, and a dinner where we all toasted to a PBR.
Life is going to feel a lot different now. His absence is already very notable. While I'm thankful for the time we had and the life he provided us, it will never feel like enough time.
I have brought home his orchid and repotted it. So far it's doing OK and probably enjoying the company of all my other plants. Here's to seeing if we can get it to bloom again.
Love you, Dad.
