Fun day in Los Angeles yesterday that actually began with a quick visit to FORMAWERX. Picked up the latest run of RetoMod Willy‘s shirt jackets, followed by a few different meetings with car spotting along the way. Got to check out the Pro Set perpetual calendar by IWC Schaffhausen | U.S. & CAN launched this past April, followed by a quick trial of the new 36 mm JLC in rose gold. Wrapped the day with the release of the wi***es on the website, so go get yours now!

Most of you will be very familiar with today’s guest. After all, Berneron ®, the namesake watch brand started by its founder, Sylvain, has had what I can only describe as a meteoric rise within the watch industry. His approach to watchmaking and watch design is something that I deeply admire, and as a result, his approach to business is also something I hold in high regard, making this a very special episode.

Sylvain is not only an approachable person making incredible products, but he offers insights as well as detailed and comprehensive responses to questions asked. If you haven’t heard his episode on the Hairspring podcast, I highly recommend listening to that as well.

Berneron is the type of brand that has me on the edge of my seat as someone who is primarily driven by aesthetics. The Mirage is somewhat of the hero product so far - my words not Sylvain’s - but the Quantiem peaked my interest further, which I wasn’t aware was possible. In a world where shaped watches have gained major traction over the last couple of years, I feel Berneron is the master of the category.

It was a perfect Fall day at the Nakashima Woodworkers studio where I took part in a tour and a couple other very special moments which I’ll be writing about very soon. Huge thank you to Soomi, Zane, Toshi, Jonathan, and of course, Mira, for your time, the incredible hospitality, and further education.

The creations up close are second to none, and there’s far more than I can share here. Again, stay tuned.

Today, I welcome back my good friend, Lehner, the founder and one man band behind StrapHabit.

Though we chat at least once a week, between texts and phone calls, I felt we were due for a more public catch-up given things have drastically changed in Nick’s life.

Late last year, he left his full-time job to focus on his business, and as we continue to generate different collaborations together, I couldn’t be more excited for Nick. Why don’t we just get into it…

Twice a year, George Glasgow Jr 🇬🇧 rolls into Los Angeles with Ben, George Cleverley ®’s bespoke craftsman, for what is always an enjoyable experience for their trunk shows.

Shoe addiction aside, the catch-ups are always entertaining, and this year I was lucky to be invited to dinner. There, the shoe community grows, friends are made, stories take shape, and the enjoyment continues. Thank you so much to George, Ben and Claire for the inclusion. You all are the absolute epitome of the intersection of luxury & approachability and I wouldn’t change a thing.

If you haven’t heard my podcast with George from a few years back, it’s a don’t-miss peek behind the curtain of the storied shoemakers based in the Royal Arcade in London’s Mayfair.

We discuss our respective trips recently - he to San Francisco, and my trip to Connecticut. We chat a fair amount about architecture, we briefly recap our 9:27 event, and we chat about Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wrights Phoenix-based Winter office which I toured in 2022 whereas Trevor just did a couple weeks ago!

The temperatures have fallen and it’s finally starting to feel like fall here in California. Here’s a throwback to last November above the clouds with zachary piña where we had an epic morning on Mount Tam.

Zach was instrumental in capturing images of the Mugello Suede Jacket that launched last fall. I’m very much looking forward to lots of where in the next five months, especially when traveling East!
