How Elegba Came to Be

This story is inspired by a traditional Àpàtákì—a sacred teaching story from the Ifá tradition that carries lessons about life, character, and destiny.

In this rendition, we explore one traditional account of how Elegba became the guardian of the crossroads, the opener of roads, and the messenger between heaven and earth.

My hope is to honor these teachings, inspire curiosity, and encourage more people to learn about the rich traditions of Yorùbá spirituality.

📖 The first story that changed how I see the world.

When I first learned this story about Elegba, I realized it wasn’t really about a hat…

It was about perspective.

It was about pride.

It was about listening before judging.

Sometimes we aren’t seeing different truths—we’re seeing different sides of the same truth.

This is the first installment of my ORI & ASHE Renditions of the Orisha Stories—a storytelling series inspired by the wisdom and teachings that have been shared for generations.

I’m still learning. I’m still growing. And I’m honored to take you with me on this journey as we explore the lessons of the Orishas together. 🌿
