I'm still taking this in. Honored. Humbled. Validated.
I was invited to exhibit my work in the Nautilus Gallery at the North Carolina Aquarium on the Outer Banks — This collection will live here for 12 weeks as the aquarium celebrates it’s 50th anniversary.
More than 20 pieces are part of this exhibit, built through layers of recycled shipping boxes, wood, resin, patience and love. Adding up to over 150 layers.
There is something deeply meaningful about being invited into this milestone year. For 50 years, this place has helped people connect to the waters, wildlife, and wonder of our coast. To have my work become a small part of that history feels like an honor I carry with a lot of gratitude.
Now, our aquariums have become part of my story too.
The poster says Rise & Return, and that feels true to this season of my life and work.
Ebb & Flow at Ft. Fisher Aquarium was its own chapter. A reminder that growth is layered. That meaning deepens over time. That we return changed.
The title, Rise & Return felt right to me.
Not just of tides.
But of growth.
Of becoming.
Of finding your way back with more meaning than when you began.
To have now exhibited in 2 of our 3 North Carolina aquariums is something I do not take lightly (cc: Pine Knoll Aquarium, I’m coming for you next! :) )
Doors will open when the universe decides you’re ready. And sometimes you find yourself standing in front of the tangible proof of how far you’ve come.
I’m deeply grateful. And yes, proud too. Humbly proud.
This one means a lot.
