America’s Largest Marina Salutes America at 250
Today we celebrate 250 years of the United States of America from Marina del Rey, the largest man made marina in North America and one of the world’s great waterfront destinations.
Built in the 1960s through the vision of Los Angeles County, Marina del Rey transformed wetlands into a thriving recreational boating harbor that is now home to nearly 5,000 boat slips, many marine and other local businesses, and generations of boaters, adventurers, and dreamers. It stands as a reminder of what can be accomplished through vision, hard work, and the freedom to build something extraordinary.
Southern California is once again in the global spotlight. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is bringing fans from around the world to our communities. Next comes the Super Bowl, followed by the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Millions of people will experience our coastline, our cities, and the incredible opportunities that make this region so special.
As we celebrate Independence Day, we also honor the generations of Americans whose courage, sacrifice, and commitment to freedom made these opportunities possible. Because of them, we enjoy liberties that many around the world still dream of. We are grateful to the men and women who have defended this nation and to everyone who has helped build the United States into the country it is today.
The next few years will showcase Southern California to the world. Let’s welcome our visitors, celebrate our communities, and never take for granted the freedoms and opportunities we have been blessed with over the past 250 years.
Happy Birthday, America. Thank you !
