⭐️ Important Update: Car Seat Ponchos ⭐️

If you are interested in car seat ponchos this season this is a PSA and change of plans, so please read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️First, my September Car Seat Poncho drop will be delayed. It was originally scheduled for this Friday, the 4th but now will be Friday, September 11th at 3pm. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I do not have as many ready as planned due to seasonal illness in the house, and need a bit more time. That’s the short term announcement.

Bigger picture: For the last several years, I’ve been tapering off in making car seat ponchos. Supplies have increased in price and are harder to find, suppliers have become fewer. I have loved the last nine years of hand making over 1000 ponchos that have gone all over the US. A couple even were gifted by a customer outside of the US, honestly it’s been such a great gift and I’ve loved it. As seasons of life change, I am needing to devote more time to my busy family and other endeavors. I will reassess in years to come if I want to take it on again but this year’s goal is to clear out my supplies. As such…

⏰What you see on the September 11th drop will be it for the season. ⏰
👉🏼 There will be no custom orders. I had previously talked about doing this and no longer can commit to it.
👉🏼 What you see is what I have for the season. There will be no restocks so snag them while you can!
👉🏼 There will be multiple of most prints. These prints can be made hoodless if requested.
👉🏼 Ponchos can be picked up via porch pick up or shipped for $10.

Just over a week and I get to share the NEW Car Seat Ponchos ready for purchase from Hannah’s Sewing Arts!

These ponchos are designed to fit on the child to take them to the car, flip up to buckle and put the back of the poncho over the back of the seat, and then unbuckle and carry them in. These are PERFECT for the cold months, snag the widest variety of the season with this coming drop! While they are “Car Seat Ponchos” they’re also perfect stroller ponchos, grocery cart ponchos, movie theater blanket ponchos, wheelchair ponchos, wagon ponchos, watching big brothers soccer game ponchos and more! The uses are endless, far beyond the car seat!

They are designed for upright seats and children with head control to ensure they are safe and warm in their seat, some people also flip them down to be a blanket in the car seat once the car is warm. My kids have worn these from age 9 months all the way to six-years-old, they are made to last!

Who needs a car seat poncho? Any child in a car seat where the buckles are tight fitting, ponchos go OVER the buckles and back of the seat so there’s no interference with the buckles. Large winter coats require buckles to be extra loose and can decompress on impact, the child can then be ejected from the seat. Car Seat Ponchos allow the buckles to fit as designed, against the child.

Why a car seat poncho? Research suggests that bulky clothing and thick coats can prohibit seat belts from properly restraining children in the event of a crash. Check out this article from the CRPD to see further explanation...

Ponchos go over the top of buckles, allowing children to stay safe and warm under their canopy.

How many years can children wear their ponchos? Depending on their growth, they can last multiple years, head holes are made with V-neck to expand as they get older. From experience, typically 2-3 years BUT it depends on the child.

How do I order a poncho? Join my group linked in the comments to watch for new ponchos on the drop date!

How much is a poncho? This year, they are $40 using one my prints and one solid color. Arm holes are suggested for little ones under 3 years old and are included at no charge if requested. Older kids often don’t need them because they’re able to reach around the poncho.

One of my local customers recommended me to their family out of state, shipping it to and from got it home! They were flexible on the size of the quilt but wanted everything included, so I got creative with the layout and love the layout of this full size quilt!

Here at Hannah's Sewing Arts Car Seat ponchos can be made with or without two very distinct features.

HOOD- 90% of my ponchos are made with hoods, but if you’d like one without, just message me! The choice is up to you! Most people choose Hooded ponchos- but you know your child best and what will work best for them

ARM HOLES- again 90% of people choose to add arm holes. For older kids, often they're not needed as they can simply reach around the poncho. Based on personal experience with my kids, they're happier with arm holes when they’re little (think less than 3 years) because they can play with their toys. Again, choose what's best for your child.
