✨ One of my favorite things about shopping at 54 Mercantile is that decorating doesn’t have to be complicated.

This little vignette came together with treasures from different vendor booths throughout the shop! 💙 A pair of gorgeous blue Fenton hobnail vases, a vintage necklace, an elegant vintage brush and mirror, a charming portrait, and a few woven and floral accents…all mixed together to create a timeless vintage look.

That’s the beauty of shopping here—you can wander from booth to booth, pick up pieces that speak to you, and before you know it, you’ve created something beautiful that’s uniquely yours.

This week, on my way to the store, I heard a radio host say something that has been on my mind ever since.

She said, “Maybe the Sabbath isn’t just about resting from the work you’ve done. Maybe it’s about resting from the work you didn’t get done.”

Whew… that one hit me.

If you’ve ever owned a small business, you know the work is never really finished. There’s always another bouquet to make, another vendor to check on, another order to place, another floor to sweep, another idea rolling around in your head. Sometimes I catch myself thinking about Monday before Sunday has even started.

But I don’t believe that’s what God wants for us.

I think He gives us the Sabbath as a reminder that we were never meant to carry every burden on our own. It’s His gentle way of saying, “Child, I’ve got this. You can rest now.”

Closing 54 Mercantile on Sundays isn’t because everything is caught up. Believe me… it’s not. 😂 It’s because I need the reminder that God can do more with my six days of faithfulness than I can do trying to squeeze in a seventh day on my own.

Our business is named after Isaiah 54:17, and that verse has become more than just a name on the building. It’s a promise I hold onto:

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper… This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord.”

That promise reminds me that God is my provider, my protector, and the One carrying the weight that I was never meant to carry by myself.

So today, I’m setting down the to-do list. I’m choosing worship over worry, peace over pressure, and faith over fear.

The flowers will still need arranging tomorrow. The shelves will still need dusting. The customers will still come. And by God’s grace, so will I.

I pray you find a little rest today—not just for your body, but for your heart and your mind, too.
