Ptown dune paintings from my birthday getaway are finished, framed, and hung over Bullfinchs Restaurant in Sudbury. If you’ve not been, it’s a cozy spot tucked back from route 20 that’s been around over 40 years. The owners are wonderful regulars of mine, and I thought it was so fun they asked if I wanted to do a round on their lounge wall as a local artist showcase.

Happy Thursday. Shop is open until 5, and we are getting several reports that the wild blueberry Lighthouse Keeper’s jam is the best you’ve ever had.

S A T U R D A Y. And bright. And temperate. If it were me, I’d relish the opportunity to gather up my arms full of local things made and toiled over with the hands of my neighbors, farmers, and friends. Squash to soap. Coffee to candle.

That’s the good stuff. The human bits. The bumping into your people on the natural flight paths of your living.

Go. Out. Side. Yes? Yes.

Shop is open 11-5. This weekend looks in the clear as far as WeAtHeR, with rain and wind rolling on Sunday evening. Load up sweet little side quests while you can, because based on the MATH— you all hate the rain and do not own wellies or do things when it is falling from the sky.

I don’t care for trends. If they excite you, have at them, certainly I’m not here to judge. I just personally (and professionally) much prefer the idea and practice of longevity and ease of integration. The thought that an object could see many seasons of your life, and play a supporting role to your highs and lows is such a comforting notion.

It’s not that beige and white are my favorite colors, it’s that they play nice with everything else.

If my favorite sweater happens to be the color of an October swath of sun-bleached wetlands grass, it’s because it is the coziest. Or has the nicest hand feel. Or drape. Or wearability.

It’s BIRTHDAY MONTH. Let’s party.

I’ll be in store for my actual birthday, so if you feel like playing hooky on your 9-5, there will be gluten free cupcakes, and perhaps more importantly— a celebration of sorts by way of gift cards.

I am begging you. Please write things down, pen to paper.

A great many of my favorite thought provoking and memorable texts and art bits are things that have been discovered forgotten in drawers or sketchbooks and hidden in walls and brought into the light long after their creator has escaped this mortal coil.

We don’t realize what convenience steals from us as we “upgrade” and “modernize” and cloud-store and optimize and streamline. How dependent we are on the leaden weight of the glass projector in our hands for things humble as grocery lists and love notes.

There will be nothing for your children to r***e through when they are old enough. No creak of hinges on a hand me down cedar chest, no recipe in the margins of a butter stained cookbook, no tower of photos snapped carelessly and candidly in the moment. Nothing to discover of your sister trying her hand at poetry, or painting. No concert ticket stubs. No newspaper clippings or blue ribbons. No handwriting. No ink smudge. No concrete proof.

The antidote to AI, is to make it messy. To luxuriate in humanness up to your eyebrows. Deeper than that, even. I want texture and scars and burnt edges. I want to stare wildly out the window and have… drumroll please… thoughts of my own.
