Today, we remember the incomparable Dolly Parton. 🤍
Dolly met her sweetheart, Carl Dean, outside a Nashville laundromat on her very first day in the city. Two years later, they quietly married in a small church in Georgia.
For someone who would become known for rhinestones, glamour and larger than life style, Dolly’s real wedding dress was beautifully simple. Her mother made the knee length white dress by hand, and Dolly wore it with a short veil and white heels.
As the years passed, her fashion became bolder and more unmistakably Dolly. She even wore this extravagant bridal costume for a playful television skit in 1987.
For their 50th anniversary, Dolly and Carl renewed their vows, and she finally had the opportunity to wear the beautiful wedding gown she had always dreamed of. The off white lace gown was designed by her longtime friend and creative director, Steve Summers.
Their marriage lasted nearly 59 years.
Dolly’s story reminds us that the dress holds the memory of one beautiful day, but the love that follows tells the story of a lifetime.
In loving memory of Dolly Parton. 🤍🕊️
