YESSS THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SHARES! As I’ve told my boys this week after hearing this story over and over, is the world can be cruel, people can be mean. BUT you always have to have HOPE. 🥹

HE’S HOME!!!!!!! Oh my goodness so so thankful for how much this community shared and got this out there!!! So incredibly thankful! It’s been hard to even sleep since he’s been gone, what an emotional roller coaster!!! And now it’s finally over. I’m still shaking!

👀 WHO USED THESE?

Sometimes I find myself looking at an old treasure and wondering less about what it is and more about who once used it.

Who held that Bible on Christmas morning in 1968?

Who was the man in the old photograph? What was his name? What kind of life did he live?

Who owned the little powder box? Was it part of a woman’s daily routine? Did she keep it on her vanity? I wonder what she looked like and what stories she could have told.

Who carried the bait box on fishing trips? Was he an avid fisherman, or was it simply something he kept tucked away for the occasional Saturday morning?

Who used the old scale?

Who made grocery lists on the little grocery list holder?

These objects were once ordinary possessions belonging to real people.

They were held, used, carried, opened, written on and eventually put away.

And now they’re sitting here, decades later, waiting for someone else to notice them.

We may never know the names of the people who used them.

But I can’t help wondering about them.

Who were they?
What did their everyday lives look like?
What memories were made while these things were part of their lives?

That’s the part of treasure hunting I love most.

Every treasure has a story. Sometimes the hardest part is knowing we’ll never hear the whole thing. ❤️

And the Merc is full of treasures like these.

Little pieces of the past. Little glimpses into lives we will never know.

You never know what story might catch your eye when you’re wandering through the Merc. ✨

👀 WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE

This week, it was quilts.

Not just the big, beautiful quilts themselves, but all the little pieces of the past stitched into them.

The faded fabrics.
The tiny hand-stitched details.
The mismatched pieces that somehow belong together.
The quilts that have been given a second life as pillows, decorations, and unexpected little treasures.

I found myself wondering about the hands that made them.

Who carefully saved that fabric?
Who sat and stitched those pieces together?
Was it made for a wedding? A baby? A daughter? A granddaughter?
Was it folded at the foot of a bed for years and years?

And now, here they are at the Merc — still carrying a little bit of the person who made them, even if we’ll never know their name.

That’s one of my favorite things about treasure hunting.

Sometimes what catches your eye isn’t just what something is.

It’s the story you imagine might be hiding in it.

❤️ What caught your eye at the Merc this week?

🔎 WHAT IS IT? — ANSWERS!

Okay, treasure hunters… time to see how you did!

Some were probably easier than others, but that’s what makes looking at treasures from a different angle so much fun. 😉

Here are the five mysteries:

1️⃣ Silver-plated scalloped shell dish
A little bit of vintage shine hiding in plain sight.

2️⃣ Vintage woven picnic basket
The weave probably gave this one away to some of you!

3️⃣ Vintage wooden letterpress printer’s tray
This one is especially fun — those little compartments were made to hold individual pieces of type.

4️⃣ Hand-painted Russian nesting doll (Matryoshka)
Once you saw the face, it probably became a little easier!

5️⃣ Vintage fireplace log cradle
And THIS one might have been the trickiest! 🔥

So… how many did you get?
5/5? 🏆
3/5? Pretty good!
1/5? Hey, at least you were brave enough to guess! 😂

That’s the fun of treasure hunting at the Merc — you never know what you’ll discover when you look a little closer. ❤️
