"America: A Patriotic Primer" is a succinct history of the United States, an ABC of the principles on which this country was founded, and a book for children and families to pour over, discuss, and cherish.

A is for America, the land that we love.
B is for the Birthday of this country of ours....

To choose the twenty-six people and ideas that comprise the book, Lynne Cheney has drawn on a lifetime of learning about the American past. This A to Z of America frames the story -- and the miracle -- of our country.

Own An Authentic Part of Meadville History!

Meadville was the site of at least 4 glass companies in the 1880's. The Meadville Glass Co., Ltd., was located near the present Mead Avenue between the railroad and French Creek.

These glass fragments come from a collection reputed to come from one of the Meadville factories after it had closed, broken out of the pools of glass which were left to cool in the brick furnaces when the factory was abandoned. This story seems to be supported by the fact that the glass in the fragments is not mixed well, displaying several different shades of green, and some have pieces of brick or stone still embedded in them.

Note: Each glass fragment is slightly different shape and size.

From beloved author-illustrator Jessie Hartland comes a whimsical nonfiction picture book that tells the story of the American flag that inspired the poem and our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

If you go to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, you can see a massive American flag: thirty feet tall and forty-two feet long. That’s huge! But how did it get there? And where did it come from?

Well… The story of this giant flag begins in 1812 and stars a major on the eve of battle, a seamstress and her mighty helpers, and a poet named Francis Scott Key. This isn’t just the story of one flag. It’s the story of “The Star Spangled-Banner,” a poem that became our national anthem.

Have you ever wanted to hug the father of our country?

In real life, George Washington was known to be a hugger. Washington hugged his pal, Lafayette, who was a major-general in the Revolutionary War. On his way to resign his commission, Washington wept unashamedly and embraced each of his officers in appreciation for their camaraderie.

So, go ahead. Hug.

Our George Washington Little Thinker doll is approximately 12" tall and cuddly.

The unexplained and misunderstood make up a major part of the folklore of every society, ours included. Meet the monsters in our midst, from bigfoot to Mothman and beyond!

Welcome to the United States of Cryptids, where mysterious monsters lurk in the dark forests, deep lakes, and sticky swamps of all fifty states. From the infamous Jersey Devil to the obscure Snallygaster, travel writer and chronicler of the strange J. W. Ocker uncovers the bizarre stories of these creatures and investigates the ways in which communities embrace and celebrate their local cryptids. Readers will learn about:

• Batsquatch of Washington, a winged bigfoot that is said to have emerged from the eruption of Mount Saint Helens
• Nain Rouge of Michigan, a fierce red goblin that has been spotted before every major city disaster in Detroit
• Flatwoods Monster of West Virginia, a robotic extraterrestrial that crash-landed in rural Appalachia
• Lizard Man of South Carolina, a reptilian mutant that attacked a teenager in the summer of 1988
• Glocester Ghoul of Rhode Island, a fire-breathing dragon that guards a hoard of pirate treasure
• And many more!

Whether you believe in bigfoot or not, this fully illustrated compendium is a fun, frightening, fascinating tour through American folklore and history, exploring the stories we tell about monsters and what those stories say about us.
