Cherry Coke Margarita with Luxardo

Ingredients

1 oz blanco tequila
½ oz amaretto
½ oz fresh lime juice
½ oz Luxardo cherry syrup from the jar
4 oz chilled Cherry Coca Cola
Ice
Luxardo cherry
Lime wheel
Salt or sugar for the rim, optional

Directions

Rim a rocks glass with salt or sugar and fill it with ice.

Add tequila, amaretto, fresh lime juice, and Luxardo cherry syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake until very cold.

Strain over the fresh ice.

Top with 4 oz Cherry Coca Cola and gently stir.

Garnish with a Luxardo cherry and lime wheel.

The original recipe calls for blanco tequila, but specifically says reposado can be substituted for a warmer, smoother flavor.

Fresh from the sea and straight to the table.

A whole grilled fish, simply prepared with lemon and herbs, served with seasoned rice and the kind of uncomplicated sides that let the catch speak for itself. It’s the sort of meal that belongs after a long day on the water: honest, local, fresh and without pretense.

There was a time when the things a man carried into the field were built to last. Worn leather. Oiled canvas. Cold steel. Scratched wood. Nothing disposable. Nothing pretending to be something it wasn’t.

The hunt was only part of it.

It was the early morning. The cold air. The quiet before sunrise. A thermos of coffee. Good equipment passed from one generation to the next.

Some things improve with age because they carry the evidence of having been lived with.
