Twinning!!!

I made a christening gown 3 years ago. Then just a few months ago, I was contacted to make another one from the same wedding gown as the mom was now expecting twin girls this year! To my luck, the remainder of the wedding gown from 3 years ago, had been saved, and there was enough fabric to make another christening gown!!

The first one made had lots of ruffles - I didn't have enough ruffles for the second one but there were a lot of lace appliques left. 2nd headband also made!

They look so sweet!! đź’•

Mom's wedding gown brought to me to make a bridal robe for her daughter (as discussed via messaging)! But...bride had mentioned wanting special wedding pj's. Soooo, when mom brought me the dress, she asked me to make 2 sets of satin pj's! One for the bride, 2nd one for her other daughter. I told her I had never made pajamas so had to use a pattern!

She had special tags made with her wedding date and her daughter's wedding date to be sewn in. 2nd daughter has just mom and dad's date sewn in.

One shapely wedding gown = 2 first communion dresses! A challenge for sure! The rhinestone top had me procrastinating for a long time! And the limited amount of fabric to make 2 dresses left no room for mistakes. Mom gave me a sketch of what she envisioned so I took measurements in January, then closer to communion date, as kids grow, and indeed they did!

I then made patterns - they are twins but I made 2 sizes as they are slightly different.
And I wanted to use the center back with all the buttons, for the center back of both skirts because they were so pretty! But because of the trumpet shape of the train, one turned out more curvy than the other!
Just like the twins - they may be made the same, but each is unique!

First fitting, I had made the bodice from cotton, so I could adjust the fit before cutting the rhinestone and remaining satin fabrics. Good thing, because they had grown since taking original measurements!

Still cant believe i was able to make 2 dresses from this gown!

Alterations on mom's baptism outfit for her little girl! It went from a 24 month size (when mom wore it) to 6-9 month size! Bonnet taken in about an inch all around, shoulders on dress and jacket taken in from 9" to 7", and sleeves shortened 2" on jacket!

Love the train on this gown! So I was sure to use as much of the lace as I could! Adding lace to the front, the hem, headband and sleeves!

One frame shows the lace added to the hem, then shows after the fabric from underneath was trimmed away. Another frame shows the original gathered waistline, and the new one with pleats. I felt the the heavy fabric just didn't look pretty when gathered, and was too bulky.

Christening was held on the USS Constitution where dad works!

Sweet gown made for a little boy. Using grandmother's taffeta wedding gown and incorporating parts of one of mom's favorite outfits of his for a pop of blue at waist and collar! This was a special gown.

Another open studio tour in the books! This time though, I only had racks of dresses to display being a busy prom and bridal season! So I brought in my wedding gown, that I made almost 39 years ago! So happy to see this again and place her on a pedestal where she belongs!
